You can't compare xc times..unless you use speed ratings...and it wouldn't be very fair to post track times cuz if youre good at track it doesnt mean youre going to be good at cross and vice versa...

Okay Everyone had a good team, we know who the best
were look it up on Dyestat.
But, how about who had the worst team.
We were 0-17. Our top guy was in the 19's
Decent teams would get 7+ in front of our top guy.
We were awful...We did one maybe two runs a season over
5 miles. What did I know I was in Highschool.
I'm old now, and coach, we've got probally 10 guys
on our team better then my top guy in Highschool.

our high school football team didnt win a game in 5 years and lost our homecoming game by 54 points
It was always kind of funny because they got so hyped up for every game
Rockford had a great team, but I think it pales to the York 1999 team, which really was tremendous. Just to note, someone listed their team's Detweiler times (IL state meet course), and the person who posted York's a bit earlier, that was on the same course. Look at the difference.

I can remember we had four under 15:45 and our fifth was right around 16:30 for 5k in High School(West Brook High-Beaumont, TX). If I recall, our seventh man ran around 17:15. We never made it to state as I sucked it up at the regional meet and finished 32nd. We were ranked second in the state in 1987 to Conroe McCullough. And yes, we beat Kingwood at there own meet with Mike Gibson and co.
However, the rumor mill in 1986 with Eric Henry, Danny Green, Shaun Barnes, and co., Conroe McCullough ran a two mile time trial with something ridiculous like 10 or 15 guys under 9:20 for two miles. If true, that has to be the strongest seven I am aware of. That same year that same team set the 4x1600m high school record that stood for almost twenty years or still stands, I am not for sure?
But if you want to go even younger in age group cross country. When I was 13 and still living in Illinois, we had 5 or 6 guys that could run 13:30 for 4,000m.. If my math and pacing chart are even close, I think that's around 16:30 for 5k and keep in mind that's 13 years of age!! We had the likes of Scott Maddux, Craig Hillier, and a few more that I now forget, so you Illinois boys, I know about XC!!
Great question. We all like to re-live the past as long as it's the past...

Farmington Hills (Mich.) Harrison High sqaud -- 1977
At state qualifier at Royal Oak Kimball High (a flat course):
15:45 - Charlie Rogers, jr.
16:13 - Mike Foley, sr.
16:14 - Patrick Delano, sr.
16:29 - Jim Stojek, sr.
16:49 - John Anderson, jr.
16:50 - Gary Tottis, jr.
18:10 -- Fred Hempel, sr.
We didn't qualify for state meet, not even the 15:45 guy as an individual.
I find it hard to believe that 10-15 guys on the same team ran under 9:20 for 2 miles. I think that there have been many years when that many people didn't run that fast in the entire nation.

I really doubt that there have been many years, if any at all, where there weren't 10-15+ guys under 9:20y.
As for having 10-15 guys under 9:20 for 2 miles... I kinda doubt it as well, maybe it was 10 guys under 9:30y? I could see that from a team like Conroe McCullough

Yeah, you're probably right. Unfortunately I couldn't find stats from earlier than 1999. I was thinking of the early 90's years that were very weak compared to now and prior.

How do you get an average of 15:20 when the #2 man was 15:20? I get 15:31 for an average, 15:26 median
Surprise,
Keep in mind this was only a rumor; however, I can name Eric Henry, Danny Green, Shaun Barnes, Scott Cramer for sure broke 9:20 and I promise you there was a minimum of at least 4 to 6 more. Believe me, I didn't want to believe it either when I was in High School and competeing against those guys. Thank God I ended up as an 800m. runner.
It wouldn't surprise me if that rumor was true, because as I have the upmost respect for Coach Green, it wouldn't surprise me that 10-15 guys ran under 9:20 or even 9:30, because this is what typically happens. Look at this year-Alex Neff runs 9:03 in late Feb. early March and I bet you will not run that fast the rest of the year.
As far as verifying those 10-15 guys under 9:20 if any current Woodlands guys on here should just ask Coach about that year or ask Danny,jr. at Arkansas.
No matter what, Coach Green has had amazing run at McCullough/Woodlands that only the rest of could dream about.

I've got a better question. Ok so you are going on PRs. How about a single race? What were the best times of everyone in one race? Best average? best whatever?
Times run at Conference Meet (best average in school history)
1. 1656
2. 1705
3. 1715
4. 1725
5. 1739
6. 1801
7. 1814
average was 17:24 i think. might have messed up the calculation.
