I would have to say Cory Ihmels at Iowa State. The guy is pretty young and has improved the program a lot over the past year...and looking at the roster, I can see them being a very tough team to beat in these next couple years.

Hey, I got a question about young coaches...
When did Eric Peterson turn into Fred Flintstone?
Hahahahahahaha.

Seriously, that dude looks waaaay outta shape. Man, I remember him when he was 3:42 fast at Oregon. Is this the same guy, but he's just been eating too many Fat Burgers? Or, is there more than one Eric Peterson.
Either way, I'm an idiot.
In regard to the rallying behind "Vig"
If you didn't know, there is a contingent in the country of coaches who focus primarily on gaining political gains over focusing on the development of athletes. They are the ones who sport the NTN/NIN gear year round, volunteer and get flown to these meets. They are the ones who use their political connections to get the B class athletes into Nike's 'national' championships. They also back Jay Johnson of Colorado. Johnson and "Vig" have made themselves overly available to these leaches who thrive off of name dropping and pumping up their egos through the mentioning of their 'close friendship' with these 'best coaches in the nation.' It's disgusting to see these leaches in action at Nike championships, as they do their best to out do each other in the ass kissing competition that they pathetically feel is the running world.
Is this Nelson or Williamson. While it may be impressive that they got jobs....at some D-1's it is easier to get hired than at most top high school programs and they would probably lose to them anyway. I guarantee that neither will want to stay with the huge lack of support either of them are getting from their administrations. They have little money and are happy to even get a 6:00 miler.

RAT = right on the money.
I haven't seen a coach dodge competition as much as UT CC did this season. Check out their 06 schedule. Their home meet was a joke.
Yeah, he just dodged everyone when they went out to Oregon. Or at Nats when they finished in the top 10 for the second straight year. How did your team do at nats?
"Vig" is a good coach, not the best, but good. I was commenting on his, Jay Johnson's and the NTN/NIN crew's ass kissing fan club.
And as for UGA's awful coach. You point out some kids who got faster. But what about all the 9:20 types he gets that die. The Abtahi, Elder, Glass, Marino, Roberson. Not to mention Ridgewell who came in as a 1:50 guy. Oh and why don't you point out the kids that transfered in that have kept your program a float. UGA's men's team is dieing.
You do not like Hartman, do you? Somehow, he was named the South Region Coach of the Year and on the track he was named the assistant distance coach of the year. They guys mentioned either have improved or were not 9:20 types. As for Ridgewell, he just got there in August and has not run a race on the track yet. Plus, he has run 1:48. Your arguements are weak and it is obvious that you just don't like Hartman
Jesse marino was not a 920 guy as a jr in high school? I guess Abtathi never ran 924 either. Your right Elder ran around 9:30. Roberson low 9:20, and Glass ran under 420 in the mile. And do not give me BS cross times and say they got better
sean mcmanuc at FSU...coached chammers to 1:46.82 last year

The intelligence level of the posters on this board sometimes astonishes me. Dodging competition? This isn't boxing, kid. At the only competition that mattered, Texas finished top 10. That's NCAA's, and that's all that matters in XC.
Jay Johnson--enough said!

Come on now, she's always been talented! 4:50 miler in high school. Her All-American status was going to come sooner or later. REAL coaching would be taking one of the OU guys and leading them to All-American status. But of course, Martin Smith is the coach, not Tom.
Barto.....nuff said.
Coach Lintz (GA Otterbein) has coached an NCAA Champion and another All American in his first two seasons. Don't know why he's just doing the vault though.
I believe his father is in the Ohio Association of Track and Cross Country Coaches hall of fame...coached back to back state titles back in the mid 90s.
