BTW, since everyone has to handicap every race, no matter what:

2005: 66F and a 9mph wind. McDougal solo'd.

2006: 50F, 18mph wind. McDougal ran with someone most of the way.

there is pretty little use in comparing the two races, they were run completely differently so to score teams or individuals doesnt really say anything...One race got strung out very quickly (McDougals race), and the other was very tight (fagans), The first mile was very different

The first mile was a couple of seconds faster in the second race, but the big difference was in miles two and three. The leaders went through in 9:11 in the second race. I didn't record the exact split for race one, but it was somewhere around 9:18 or so. Race 2 was 14:00 at 3 miles, maybe a second or two over (hard to time that one exactly because they're way the heck out away from the sign).

Good point about Lomong from NAU. What a beast. A fast half miler out there duking it out for the course record at prenats. What is he going to run for 1500!

Also a good point about Fagan. He looked great coming up the homestretch into the wind.

Has anyone compared women's times midpack to see what effect the course change had? I think it should've been a little faster because they didn't have to go up the outer loop hill (starting down by the men's 4M) twice. Perhaps 5 seconds quicker?

Korir has improved a great deal from last year and ended up 19th at NCAA's last year. Looks like a top 6 finish this year

After viewing the weekend's results, I think this is how I would rank the teams for D1:

1. Wisconsin

2. Iona

3. UTEP

4. Colorado

5. Arkansas

6. Stanford

7. Florida State

8. Florida

9. Oregon

10. Portland

11. NC State

12. Michigain

13. Alabama

14. BYU

15. Notre Dame

16. Kansas

17. UC Santa Barbara

18. Iowa

19. Arizona

20. California

Some of these rankings may come as a surprise to some, but, for example, ranking Arizona at 19th is pretty waranted I think. Yeah, they have two good front runners, but so do Notre Dame, Kansas, Oregon, and some other teams, but Arizona is missing depth. Mpanga hasn't really shown much yet, and after that, the team just kind of drops off. UCSB has shown some good team finishes. When Michigain runs Mike Woods, their stock is going to go up, but not by much. Overall, I think this is a pretty fair ranking, especially considering how UTEP and Iona performed over the weekend.

Are you serious with Cal being 20th?? If their coach had any brains, he would have taken them to Pre-Nats so they could have tried to get some potential points. Instead, they went to Chili Pepper where the teams that are ranked high in their region are way too good for them. So now they have to perform extremely well at Regionals and beat some team that has points which in my opinion isnt likely with the way the top teams in the west region look. It's stupid to run a 10k in the middle of the season. Why not save it for the end? God damn they are overrated and they talk too much.

only problem i have with the rankings is if your going to rank a team make sure they have beaten the teams above them and havent lost to them. For example. Kansas beat Michigan this weekend, Kansas should be ranked ahead of them, and Iowa beat both teams so they should be above them. How is Michigan the 12th best team in Nation when they got beat this weekend. UCSB ran awesome 4th in the blue and only 17th? they would have beaten MU, KU and Iowa along with ND if its head to head.

Is that yahoo Sandoval still in charge of cross at Cal? If so, there is your answer to "if their coach had any brains".
