Mottram's arrogance, whether or not he backs it up, is very healthy for the sport of track and field. We need personality.

All you people who say Mottram should remain confident yet humble... that's what we've been seeing from our USA distance runners for decades.

You don't see Terrell Owens calmly congratulating the other football team when he scores the winning TD. You see a wild, cocky, end-zone celebration and people like that.

To the general public, one-on-one competition in distance running isn't interesting unless there is a little trash talk. For example: Steve Prefontaine & AJ Acosta. Enough said.

All you dumbasses saying Mottram doesn't back it up... That's IRRELEVANT! They NEVER back it up! the point is, people are now excited and can't wait to see how Mottram will do in upcoming races.

he is however, overrated just becasue he's white. sad but true that white people (majority of US/EU distance runenrs)find it hard to have Black role models.

Have you forgotten Steve Ovett? He was probably the least humble runner on this planet. Sometimes he even made gestures to the runners he passed the last 100 m. Tennis would have been a lot more boring without guys like Nastase, Connors and McEnroe.

yes he is overrated. he's 16th in the world, but so many people on here are saying he's the best.

I think that it doesnt matter his qualities results or being white justify the words he is speaking out.

To me running is always a one on one sport annyway, so funny to hear him say he can beat them one on one.

A tactical race is a tactical race and a fast race is a fast one, the best for the day can follow break out or outsprint it, no team mate kan make you win if youre no good.

I saw the race where he beat bekele and be real, did bekele seem fresh and fit.

Bravo for him that he could win this time, shows that if he has a good day and the others a bad one he is able to win.

But please give this fact a little charm and dont imedietley scream from the roof tops that youre the best. He is good and an example that you dont need to be an african to win big races. But a verry bad example in handling sucses, let others say youre good or the best like thay say abaut KB Elg Geb Tergat and so on. Did one of those ever say he is the best, while thay all where it at theire own event(more as Mottram). In running we dont need people to be arrogant. Leave that to the boxers.

So Mottram, keep on with the good running, but dont blow it with a big mouth.

Mottram has done nothing yet!!! yes he has been running well and i hope to see him get better but those kenyans are good and hard to beat as we all know it but again i really hope mottram steps up to another level. i think we are all chearing for him but he needs to prove himself
