Is it just me or am I the only one who isn’t saddened by the loss of life of a complete stranger? No doubt a giant sad and emotional loss for his loved ones, I won’t argue that. But it has no bearing on my emotional state. Maybe in passing consideration of his loss vague feelings of sadness appear temporarily, but I strongly suspect these feelings are more a result of his loss reminding me of my own mortality than they are a result of his loss alone. Expressions of sympathy, in situations like these and by complete strangers, always come across hopelessly perfunctory, automated, and insincere.
as for the family, the best I could offer would be a revered silence and a respect for their privacy.
Objectively, I get what you're saying. However, taking the time and effort to post it is unnecessary and inconsiderate to those who may be grieving. What you posted may not be factually wrong, but the act of posting it is questionable. If you wouldn't tell his family and friends that in person, consider refraining from doing so on a public forum.
