a) GerrytheJogger is not Gerry Lindgren. Research the aforementioned; us the message board search function and search GerrytheJogger. You will see that it is not him. Read several of them and you will see that GerrytheJogger is an advocate of Lindgren. GerrytheJogger is not Lindgren. Who knows, maybe some of you want to believe that it is Lindgren, that way you feel as though you are actually speaking with him. Ask yourself why Gerry Lindgren would speak with all of you yet he won't call his family. Do you think he would apologize to all of you? Do you think he cares what any of you think about him?
b) If I am claiming to be a long time friend of Gerry Lindgren and would like to speak with him I would go on the University of Hawaii's website and obtain his contact information. If contact info is not available I would send a letter to the athletics office addressed to his attention. Believe me, he will get it. He might not read it but he will get it. I'm going to guess that if he sees a letter from a "long time friend" he might consider reading it. A "long time friend" would not post emotional posts such as John Anderson did that the entire world can read. A "long time friend" would honor the privacy within a friendship unless he is trying to bring attention to himself.
c) So many of you are concerned with the personal life of a person you have never even met. If you spent more time judging yourself then judging others, you would all be a lot further ahead. Michael Jordan is a much larger icon in the basketball community then Lindgren is in the track community and it makes no sense for any of us that do not know him to judge him and tell him what he should or shouldn’t do. Jordan and Lindgren have no right to judge any of you either. You can judge someone like Bin Ladin that is directly affecting you or the ones you love but you can not judge someone that has not affected your personal life.
People, I get a laugh every time I read a new emotion packed post that thinks that they are speaking directly to Lindgren. Thanks for the laughs.
p.s. Gerry wanted me to thank you for talking some sense into him. He hasn't had time in Manoa Valley and Waikiki to ponder his life thoroughly for the last 20+ years. Also, he asked that I inform everyone including the person that started this thread that his name is spelled Lindgren not Lingren.

I just feel we can only judge how an individual treats us. You could not find a more smoke and mirror situation than a family breakup. I worked in this field for years and when you jump into a family/Domestic breakup you feel you got a handle on who may be the instigator the bad guy if you will. You then find new evidence, witnesses and you think, Oh no, this is not right this is bull, that could not have happened. Then you want out of the thing cause it is a MESS. Things that one side usually will never reveal, Things you never expected were happening are. My experience is...,my opinion, the one who is NOT defending themselves, does not have to defend himself, and knows it. You think you love running..you meet Gerry Lindgren, and realize this guy loves it so far beyond anyone you have met. No way would I want to compete against a guy like that in running. He is so fun to talk to and treats everyone more than a equal. He is just a joy to hang out with...I can only judge my friends on such interaction.

No my life isnt perfect, but then again I never have abandoned my children, cant imagine doing it.
I only give him crap for abandoning his children, whom he had a moral obligation to be there for, not to deny their existence. Just my opinion and I am happy to state it.
No matter how bad the family breakup may have been, there is no excuse for abandoning your children. And after they are grown up and you still brush off their efforts, is horrible.
I am not defending anyone who abandons their kids ... but
hey, you/we do not even know all of the facts ... GL may have had a husband beater for a wife that threatened to kill him ... he may have had a restraining order that discouraged him and caused such a deep depression that he had no other mode of survival then to take on an entire new

cassidy, you're just a hero-worshipping little kid, an eager Lindgren lap dog who would gladly allow Lindgren to rewrite his life history to justify his shallow life, rather than expect Lindgren to live up to minimal adult standards. I ran some fast times as a kid; however, I know the people who know me realize my life has amounted to more than some fast times. That can hardly be said about Lindgren. Anyone who has been an abject failure for 30 years should not be rewarded for it.
There are so many other worthy people for you to worship. Although I'd prefer that you not worship me.
Here is what we do know, from the mouth of his own son. He has tried for years to have a relationship with his father, went out to Hawaii to see him, get some answers- was given the run around and a promise to maintain contact. No contact according to his son.
I think since his oldest son is one of the 2 principal parties he knows what he is talking about.
I was unhappy about the profile. I didn't see any good that came out of it at all. It was terrible. Gerry obviously has problems, but it's not totally his fault. He had an abusive father. That doesn't justify what he did to his family, but it explains a lot. Most people that have abusive parents are screwed up for the rest of their life. He was an amazing runner, but hasn't lived the best life.
