have you ever been to Chicago - the wind will knock you down most days! The term "windy city" is truely accurate.

I have no problem with Boulder runners being better than me, it's the fact they think they're (sic) shit doesn't stink simply because they live in Boulder.
Explain who it is that you know thinks this way (name names) and exactly how you know that.
Just want to be sure you aren't just blaming others for your inferiority complex.

I heard that it was just a few malcontent joggers saying that.
Geez somebody gave you a dirty look over 2 decades ago and you still hold a grudge against the entire city! - what a pathetic loser!
Somebody????? EVERYBODY!!!!!!!
I have no grudge, I just haven't came across another city in the ensuing 22 years that was less friendly. When I do, I will let you know-you condescending snob. If you are not from Boulder, let me know where you are from and I will start there.
Honestly, Boulder jumped the Shark the day that Frank Shorter moved into town. His arrogance was run out of Gainesville. He took his show on the road and ended up in Boulder. Not only was his arrogance accepted it was copied by every runner to follow. Frank Shorter is the most hated distance runner of his time and it took Boulder about 10 years to duplicate that feeling.
I have to laugh at this. Frank Shorter peaked almost 35 years ago and he still has you by the balls. Did he dump your Mom or something?
.... success breeds contempt

But the defenders of Boulder still list him as a current claim to fame. I guess that the mecca has run into a little bit of a dry spell.
alls i know is this- if i'm wanting to get laid in the continental united states... i'm going to boulder.
the rest of you pud pullers can bitch about running till your nuts turn blue.
i enjoyed my recent visit to boulder, in a couple of ways.
How many Olympic gold medalist distance runners have trained in and still live in your town? The other posts on this thread have already proven wrong your ignorant suggestion of a "dry spell." Shorter has the heart of a champion, something sorely lacking among today's American "greats" and their toadies. Bash away at him for whatever personal shortcomings you imagine yourself to be above, but what really counts to a running mecca is how he ran, and he did it far better than almost anyone else has. Your green arses wouldn't have the first clue as to what "Boulder produces" so just keep living out your shitty lives in your shitty towns where almost all of your neighbors can't give a shit about running and escape to Letsrun for running talk and to pretend that your shitty opinion carries any weight. Shorter is no more a "product" of Boulder than Silvio Guerra is, and he is one of the most humble, hard-working, and genuinely friendly people you'll ever meet; 99% of the visitors to this site could stand to learn a thing or two about running greatness from Guerra.
Yes this thread started out with a chip and it's gotten too nasty. Reality check: Boulder has a good running community and many world and national class runners. It would be hard to match any place else that would have that many good runners per capita.
The Boulder arrogance thing. Well, it was actually much worse 20 years ago, when it was in to be hip. Now everyone is too diversified or rich or disenfranchized to think about hip. Hip is out, and the snob thing isn't such a big deal anymore.
No need to bash Shorter. He was a great runner, one of the greatest American runners ever.

While reading the press release regarding the cross trials being located in Boulder, I nearly spit out my coffee. Pete Julian a very nice and well meaning man referred to Boulder as "the running mecca".
Mark Wetmore does a terrific job at University of Colorado, but Boulder has not been the "running mecca" in nearly 20 years. California had 2 Olympic medals in the marathon and the middle distance runners in Palo Alto would kick Boulders ass nearly every year. Hell the Hansons are doing a better job in the snow in Michigan than Boulder is. Those crazy kids in Boulder I think believe that B.S. that is being spewed by Pete.
said Associate Director of Athletics Bob Heller, who chaired the search committee. "His experience as a decathlete brings a knowledge in each of the different event areas and he comes to Kent State from the mecca of track and field in Eugene, Oregon. To have someone like Bill as our head coach is fantastic."
We found another MECCA. Julian tells us that Boulder is the "running Mecca", but Bob Heller tells us that Eugene holds the "mecca" title when it comes to track and field.

Uh you dragged this thread back up just to share this "news"????
how can Boulder jump the shark with that continual coed- cadre of unbelievably beautiful girls? Are you insane?
