Number of people in an armed conflict can and is being mitigated by technology and superior multi-force coordination.
I'm curious what scenario you envision where Russia gets a decisive advantage by actually using nuclear weapons. Certainly they can make sure everybody loses at various levels, but I'm not seeing any nuclear scenario where Russia comes out in a better situation than literally packing up and going home.
The fundamental problem is that you are talking about what's best for Russia. To me, that is irrelevant as to the near-term future actions of Russia. The only thing that is relevant is what's best for Putin. Or perhaps, what's best for Putin's ego.
Agreed. I've said since the beginning that this war was about Putin and his hold on power.
Yesterday's ISW report discussing Putin's domestic dilemma talks about how that hold on power has become more tenuous in the past few weeks and leads to the question of how far he might go.
I am not in tears and I don't part for Russia. It is probably a lose-lose situation. No one wins. People living there is losing. European Union is losing as high energy prices will disrupt its industry. Ok, Lockeed Martin is winning.
you think the military folks want to give away their plans to the public and RU? That's not a thing.
I want to know the big picture strategy and whether they're going to get us involved in a nuclear war. I think the public should have some input on the national strategy.
If you are American, you live in a representative democracy. You have given the leaders of the nation the right to make these decisions for you.
that said, we have a free press and that can be used to impress your views on leaders.

Obviously the goal of the EU and its allies is to stop aggressive nations in the future from imperialistic actions like Russia’s. This is meant to be an example. but yes, war is hell and many millions are suffering and will continue to suffer.
Let’s be clear about what happened: 1. Biden destroyed America's oil/gas industry and made us dependent on OPEC again. 2. Biden begged OPEC to produce more oil. 3. OPEC is doing the opposite—cutting output by 2 million barrels a day.

STOP LYING
Here are the data - obviously oil and gas production have soared under Biden, after cratering during COVID. But you all knew that, unless you are a m'aga.
Ukraine can't win. They basically wasted 17 billions of US weapons + EU and lost an incredible number of soldiers. They are a failed state, totally financed by US. How long the West may finance this? It's a lot of money, it's a complete waste of literally a fortune. This will come to a end sooner or later. No one really cares about Ukrainian people, they are mere instrument of West foreign policy. It's so sad. As Pope Francis said, weaponization is no solution.
After WWII Germany and Japan were failed states. The USA plus allies propped up those two nations. By the looks of things today, it seems to have been a very good investment.
And by the looks of things on the current battle field, it seems so far that Western investment is also showing signs of money well spent.

One element you are missing in your list of winners and losers is that the Ukrainian people don't want to lose their country. That is what this is all about. Russia invaded Ukraine. You seem to be implying that Ukraine should just stop fighting, that the West should stop supporting them, which would naturally lead to Russia winning and Ukraine losing. Why are you pushing that now, when Ukraine is winning and Russia losing on the battlefield?
Wazzu made three points. You called him a liar on the first one only. So, does that mean you agree with points 2 & 3?
Pretty much, sure.
but almost every president begs opec and Saudi to increase production.
Remember trump in Saudi with that absurd sword dance and magic orb? Why do you think trump went to saudi? they all do it. nothing unusual about what Biden is doing.

What would the world do if Russia used a nuke in Ukraine? Shouldn't that be decided now rather than after it happens?
First of all, "the world" does not make decisions or take actions. Nations do.
Now, what makes you think that nations (most importantly, the US and perhaps China) haven't already put in place contingency plans? Do you think that folks on this forum would have any idea about these? Or that our discussion here is in any way relevant to such decisions?

You are entitled to think that, but you aren't going to get that from the US government or any other government. Reflecting on the citizens of the US who watched The Apprentice, and watch The Bachelor and such shows, I would prefer that they don't vote at all much less vote on a topic such has how we will respond to Putin's actions.
And a vote and campaign to get out the vote would tip our hand to the enemy which seems rather foolish.
Learn English, PLEASE! Your stupidity and propaganda regurgitation is bad enough. Your complete lack of English skills makes it just painful.
LEARN ENGLISH, MORON!
I reported your offensive post. I am Italian and i live in Italy, this is why my english staggers. I bet you speak 2 or 3 foreign languages perfectly though, you super genious.
Well, one that I don't speak is KissingPutinsAssese. One that you appear to be fluent in.

Well I hope we will not get involved in a nuclear war and I want our elected officials to make that clear to our military and to Ukraine so they don't escalate this thing under the false assumption that we have their backs in a nuclear conflict

So it's all about american imperialism?
Ukraine is not a failed state. They have a fully functioning elected government.

Yes. I believe the people should determine big-picture national strategy transparently
Did you not notice that I mentioned American Allies? If you would have said Western Imperialism I wouldn't have to be replying to your post. I might even agree with you.
America can do a lot, but it can't do everything. Every country needs allies to hold the line that like minded nations think is important for their security. Example, America could not have won WWII without an Allied contribution.
Well I hope we will not get involved in a nuclear war and I want our elected officials to make that clear to our military and to Ukraine so they don't escalate this thing under the false assumption that we have their backs in a nuclear conflict
Certainly agreed in the hope that we will not get involved in a nuclear war.
But what is this nonsense about Ukraine escalating "this thing"? Ukraine is fighting for survival. Should they simply say, "OK, Russia, you are bigger than us and are obviously psychopaths. Come, take over our nation. After all, we would not want to risk nuclear war."
Let me know when Ukraine invades Russia (legitimate, pre-2014 Russia). Then you can talk about escalating things.
