Definitely not slow. From what I've heard the differences in the course from last year to this year were very minimal so I don't know what caused the race to run so much slower.
Cumberlands has a good shot at the W if Asslouj and shevchenko run
Cumberlands has yet to run several on their roster, including Cole Bennett. Is it possible they are saving some of these athletes just for conference and nationals, or are they ineligible?
Serious Question: As an athlete, one that loves to compete, is this fun? Work incredibly hard year round but only compete a couple times each season. This seems to be the norm at many great programs regardless of division. I was not gifted or really even very good but loved to compete so I understand there may be a different mindset.
If you want to be good, you can’t race all the time. But the fun can be in the connection with your teammates, the commitment to the work, and writing the story of what you did and the good times along the way.
Racing and competing is the fun aspect but sometimes get in the way of training. In longer races 3k-10k range you don't need a bunch of races to be ready to race a good one. Shorter the event the more opportunities one needs to be sharp. Especially since collegiate distance runners have to make it from sept to end of may. That's why you see a lot not do as well in track. XC/ Indoor and Outdoor is a lot.
Cumberland ran well at Appalachian. If they can run like that again at their conference meet, they'll be tight with Campbellsville. But ignoring the teams last head-to-head result when then ran in separate races (where Campbellsville was faster, no less) is braindead. The two races were obviously very different competition-wise, as well, and team average is a flawed metric. The smaller conference meet might be good for the Cumberland team in replicating their performance from this weekend, but Campbellsville will rightfully be going into the race ranked ahead of them.
This point is also important even considering the possibility they did run that well, they still wouldn't be better than the other two teams in my eyes just based on one race.
Cumberland has competed against other top ranked teams a handful of times and hasn't beat anyone or even been very close. They're not a top 25 team and definitely not beating IU East.
Conference weekend will be interesting for sure! Looking at the "regional meet" results, it is very clear that some teams rightfully went all in and peaked for that meet.
Can they hold it for two more weeks? four more weeks? Time will tell.
My heart crumbles with pain, How could my dearest love wound me like this? I am reliant now upon lonesome strolls down dark damp back streets to prevent my mind from slipping down an endless pit of despair. I fear my time is limited upon this earth for my love no longer recognises me.

Marian is not holding onto this for four more weeks I can promise you that
Also did anyone see how the (presumably) Marian guys tried to trash Hipkiss and Milligan's coaching on Instagram?
Those guys are getting way too pumped over one day and this is going to come crashing down quick
