No he doesn’t stand a chance. He got chopped up badly in the 2012 primaries, they just couldn’t get excited about him. In 2016 he failed to rally the GOP when the donors were on the fence about trump. He is a RINO and part of the old system that failed the base. Libertarians can’t stand him. They don’t want to hear smart ideas from a smart person, they want the system broken by a brute. Normalcy is only desired by the left and they are not going to nominate Romney over any Dem.
Trump brought many people into the party that were alienated and angry. Now we always had those people in the party but we were able to limit their meaningful control. Now the party has been overrun with them.
The college educated republicans don't like the crazies and don't like the direction of the party. Believe me there are many of us but we are out of power but we can return. After trump a smart boring ethical Republican like Romney sounds good.
.
The progressives have become the radical element of the Democrat party. They have also become powerful and the Democrat moderates don't like it. The moderates are also out of power.
The progressives give a Romney a chance. The average American is against most things the progressives want to do.
Picture a Warren with her radical plans for major change versus Romney. You can't say Romney would have no chance at all.
You must not understand the depth of the hate and fear of another 4 years of trump. I know several democrats who are openly ashamed they didn’t vote just because they didn’t like Hillary. There is no more Hillary and people are not going to leave it to chance again. Romney would never survive the nomination in one piece, so I won’t bother picturing him in any race.
