A first reading of U.S. growth in October through December showed gross domestic product rose at a 1.4% annualized rate. That undershot consensus forecasts for 2.5%, and was down from 4.4% in the third quarter.
Separate data showed inflation, as measured by the Federal Reserve's preferred PCE gauge, running at 2.9% in the 12 months through December—a touch higher than expected.
Don’t forget, the trade deficit has increased 139% in the last two months.
