The American record for the 1500 was already held by a native African. It's just a little anti-climatic to ratify the new record almost a year after it happened.

Lagat (and our US) should only get the records that he set after he became a US citizen. The times he set as a Kenyan citizen are Kenyan. End of story.

This is not true, for example a UK citizen who becomes a US citizen has dual citizenship of both countries.

Anyway, does he/did he have dual citizenship last year?
If so, he chose to represent Kenya throughout the year and all times/performances should be Kenyan.
Now he is presumably choosing to represent the US then he should be able to set american records, provided he runs fast enough. Easy peasy.
A problem arises if he was no longer eligible to represent Kenya last year due to losing his citizenship. However since he chose to run for Kenya (legally or otherwise) it seems unfair to allow him an american record.
wejo the only records we should concern ourselves with are the WRs. Aim the bar high.
So much is being made of the fact that a naturalized citizen who hid the fact, is going to be granted American Records. Funny, but the Current "American Record Holder" was a naturalized citizen who doesn't even live in this country any more.

Always pulling out the race card. Lagat himself acts like he doesn't have the 1500 record even though he ran that fast as an American last year. I guess he's a racist too.
