The IAAF and the WADA are in charge. You know that Geb went through doping control at Boston last year?

In '03 they tested Richard Kiplagat and in '04 they tested Luke Kipkosgei - not the only foreigners in the database, but with all the Kenyans named Kip"something" racing in the US, you'd expect a few more to have been tested.

How many run track races in the United States? A few at Pre, Oregon and maybe Stanford?

USADA was formed mainly because the US authorities had such a bad rep, but if you want to ignore all the proven cases against American athletes where they were actually caught and allowed to compete, then continue with your attitude that the world is covering for the East African athletes. Try Jerome Young for starters.

GoodQuestion, East Africans are subject to testing in Africa at National competitions by WADA, the IAAF or the IOC (which means that every athlete at the recent Kenyan National Cross Country Championship, for example, was tested in the same way as the athletes at the US Championships). Testing is NOT regulated by Athletics Kenya (in the same way that testing is not regulated by USATF, which does it's own testing I believe, but anyone in the declared international athlete pool is subject to out of competition testing by WADA or IOC, independent to any testing carried out by a national body). The Africans are supposed to contribute funds to WADA but they don't. That doesn't mean that no-one gets tested though.

As for the poster claiming that they are not being tested because there are no laboratories in Kenya. By your logic, no US athlete outside California is getting tested, because the only accredited laboratory in the USA is in Los Angeles, 2462 miles from New York. Much further than the 1809 from Nairobi to Bloemfontein.

First, thanks for being the first to actually attempt to address my question. Please don't take my statements out of context - they are all contentions, nothing more unless someone can provide hard facts proving them right, or wrong. I have established that little testing is being done in the US and suggested that little or no testing is taking place in Africa - particularly out of competition in the weeks leading up to major competitions.

You suggest that testing did take place at the trials in Kenya, fine, but that still fails to meet the criteria of OOC testing, and I would question whether or not that actually took place and who was tested. You suggest that "every athlete at the recent Kenyan National Cross Country Championship, for example, was tested in the same way as the athletes at the US Championships." I find it hard to believe that every participant at Ngong was tested, and I know for certain that not every participant at the US trials was. Can you provide first hand accounts substantiating your claim that testing took place at the trials? If so, you will have taken one major step in invalidting my contention by establishing that there is at least some testing taking place in Kenya, but what about OOC testing - in the camps, and for athletes from nations like Qatar that don't even run trials, much less test at them?

Again, thanks for actually responding to my ideas - any chance that you can further inform us on the topic - did any testers visit the training camp at Kigari, collect samples, and subject them to testing? Were the Qataris visited at their Iten training locations and tested? Did anyone visit Ethiopia and collect samples. And, to avoid the appearance of bias, can anyone confirm that any Americans, Canadians, Brits or Ozzies were tested in the runup to World XCs?

Now I will repeat the first replyer to your message. You indeed talk out of sever form of depression caused by this weekend events. Dude, you can sit down in front of a moniter and talk garbage. But you might be well served if you go out and do some hard workout and see if you could become a top-ten runner in any high-school xc races.

I realize you may haven't mentioned becoming a world class runner in your babbles above. But in case you have one in the back of your mind, I have two words for you: FORGET IT!

If this serves as any proof or help, I was at the KIM camp in Nyahuru in March of 2000. IAAF testers showed up and were professional and thorough.

Folks, actually "Good Question" has a very valid point.

i certainly don't believe many of those guys are doping. however, the facts are that people like asmae legzouie (sp?) and pamela chepkumba and lombard slipped through the cracks for quite some time, much longer than if they were subject to regular OOC testing, as many US athletes are subject to.

Guys look, I am a us athlete who knows that any day usada can knock on my door and ask for a sample. knowing that, even if i was of the mind to do drugs, i wouldn't, because the risk is way too great of being caught when you have the possibility of OOC testing. even eddy tried to aviod the testers and they caught him after only 4 months of being on the OOC pool. that's what i call a deterrent!

Now, if i was non-US, and not subject to OOC testing, i can tell you that i could make over 100K per year running US road races, along with minor track meets, as many of us know good and well which races test and which ones don't. it's not very hard to avoid testing if you want to be a dirty bastard, especially if you're not subject to OOC testing.

again, i think many, if not all of those ethiopians and kenyans are clean. however, fact remains that many of them are not on the iaaf OOC pool, whereas any US athlete who makes a world cross team, world outdoor team, top three at indoors, etc., is automatically on the OOC pool for at least one year. that's a heck of a deterrent to using drugs, at least in my opinion.

2,465 IAAF tests last year. In comp 975 out of comp 1440.

Of the 1440 out of comp tets WADA only tested 50 Athletes!

I believe that is 1 in every 59 athletes is doping.

And if you take into consideration much of the testing is done in, "wealthier countries who can afford lab work" then one should conclude the sport is even dirtier with a much closer ratio. Those who often cheat are those who have the least to lose and least amount of "official" eyes watching.

Also IAAF doesn't specifically say if the 2,465 tests and EPO tests are from different individual athletes. They might be repeat tests. Example: Test athlete A for steroids(or EPO) out of comp then 2 months later test athlete A in comp for EPO when you know he's probably clean.
