keith sands is poised to take the title of top distance runner in the nation this fall. he won the outdoor 5k at his conference meet and is clearly better than morrison and klien who are suppose to be these "top runners," so why not sands?

Haha. But in all seriousness, that kid has a lot of potential. He has a good chance at being the best individual Augie's had in some time.
i heard he gets 1337 with tim herd in the quad cities
I really wonder how the WIAC guys are so successful every year, year in and year out. I was visiting some friends at LaCrosse and at Oshkosh earlier this year, and the guys on those teams get absolutely TRASHED almost every night. There was this one party that I was at that David Stillin, LaCrosse's top guy during track for the 5k, got so drunk he pissed himself and ended up passed out in the neighbors garage. They don't even train either- one day, the entire Oshkosh team went for a 3 mile walk- that was their workout. Like really? On the east coast, all of us are doing track workouts every other day getting ready for indoor track, so I know we might take a hit during cross season but I just think that its kind of crazy how talented the WIAC must be for them to drink so much and never train and still win nationals all the time.
A little bit of a personal plug, I think this is the year Tufts or Bates finally steps up and wins the damn thing. They may not be as talented as some of the teams like NCC or Wash U but they work their butts off and I think all that hard work is going to finally result in them bringing a title back to the east

Yeah this is completely and totally untrue. I go to a WIAC school (not going to name it, obviously) and you have no idea. Some kids drink 3-4x a week. Most it's 2-3. For the top kids, it's 2, max.

I hear that the NCC guys go hard too.

Bro, you don't know the half of it. We'd never do something as lame as a 3 mile walk -- least we've ever done is 6. A lot of kids come here on recruiting trips and smirk freshmanly at our walking regime, and then they get dropped HARD on a 12 mile walk hammer sesh.
Wow, this thread is filled with so many homers it's unbelievable

Just about everything you said is completely false, cool stories though bro.
Which team runs the most miles per week, on average, for top-7? Lax? WUSTL? NCC? Haverferd?
I heard NCC averages 110 amongst their top 5 or 7, any truth to that? I'm trying to apply to schools and want to run at a high-mileage D3 program.
NCC guys go 120+ every week year round. 3x20 miles every week!
Yeah but they walk 60 of those miles.

I know you're making that up, but my brother is friends with 29:10 guy Billy Jones and he's run 125 mpw before.
dang, sounds like my kinda training. run 40 miles a week and run great! LFG

I don't know dude, I'd still take 29:10 and two All-American finishes over a mediocre time and one win.

I would personally prefer the chance to call myself a national champion, as in better than everyone else. I wouldn't know about that though. I'm not Aaron Easker. See my name? Not
