Anyone who goes there for the running better hope that the running thing pans out for paychecks after graduation or Nike is kind because the piece of paper with Oregon on it is worth about as a roll of toilet paper in the real world. That is the single reason why Mary Cain will not be enrolling there.

Now you are embarrassing yourself. Why don't you just leave it with saying that Oregon is a great place to run, which it is, but the degree you get is all but worthless, which it is?

The rankings have everything to do with getting a good job or getting into top grad schools after graduation. It's not an accident that Oregon is ranked 115 and Harvard and Princeton are tied for number 1. Contrary to what you may think, most top companies wouldn't even give you an interview (nevermind hire you) if you have an Oregon degree and aren't at the tippy top of your class. It might behoove you to get out in the real world and see what is out there. You will be shocked to learn how many doors are open to people who go to top schools and how many doors are slammed shut on the people stuck going to academic also-rans.

Now you're embarrassing yourself. Not everyone cares about working for "the top companies", whatever that even means. Most people are content just to make some decent money and have a more or less pleasant life, which is I'm sure what most graduates of both Oregon and Duke do.

Well, yeah, sure, if the issue is what does the average person want or aspire to, then Oregon is just fine for that. You can get into some middling grad school or get a mediocre job just fine with an Oregon degree. However, that was not was being discussed. We were discussing whether Oregon is a top academic school and it unequivocally is not (if you cannot recognize this, then you probably could use a personal self-assessment). You also conveniently omitted the whole grad school element, which is a BIG deal as an enormous percentage of graduates at top schools go on to grad school. Good luck getting into a top grad school with an Oregon degree.

I'll repeat this: Mary Cain is not going to Oregon because it is such a poor academic school. It's almost laughable that so many clowns on here, with their degrees from schools nobody has heard of, think that Mary Cain's parents would let her throw away her college education by attending Oregon for undergrad.

Did you not read read the link i provided you? The 115th ranking wasn't derived out of thin air. The 73% acceptance rate, the 41% graduation rate, the middle 50th percent of SAT scores that dips into the 400s and the inability to place graduates at top medical, law, business and PHD programs all are factored in.

Why don't you list the reason why you think it is a top academic institution and why USN&WR has it wrong? Do you even know what trolling is because it is bizarre that you would question if i am doing that for merely pointing out the obvious fact that Oregon is a terrible academic institution (unless, of course, you think that similar schools, such as Clarkson or St Thomas, also are academic juggernauts).

I do, however, find it amusing that there actually are people out there who are either stupid or naive enough to think that Oregon is anything but an academic wasteland.

What do graduation rates and acceptance rates have to do with academics?

Is this a joke? If the school is full of lesser intelligent people, which Oregon is chock full of, then the classes are taught down to that level. It sounds like you never have been in a classroom full of highly intelligent people so I will tell you firsthand that the level of discussion and discourse is at a completely different level than what you get at Oregon (where more than half the class isn't even graduating). How engaged do you think the students at Oregon are when more than 50% of them don't even graduate? You may be surprised to learn that there really are classes being taught at other schools at a level higher than what you witnessed in school or saw in Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

I'm still waiting for reasons why Oregon is a great academic school but I don't expect an answer (or at least one that makes any sense). Just to make it clear to you because you obviously are having trouble processing this very simple fact: Oregon is a very poor academic school. See, it's not that complicated.
