Are there a lot of trees surrounding the track?
The track is well-protected from the wind by Stadium seating on one side, it is also at the bottom of a hill, and has bleachers on part of the infield, so it is pretty protected from the wind. But the main reason people PR on the track is because it is blue, though. Blue tracks have been proven to increase performances to 395 meter track levels.

The track is downhill? No wonder they ran so fast. It does seem that track produces very fast times. Has anyone measured it? I could use myself and take it ten inches at a time.The question becomes are some tracks short and long?

By your measurements, I am guessing we will end up with something which is, in reality, about as long as an indoor track

Would this pattern seem out of place to you:

Both the first and second place runners in this meet have this basic trend in all their results. Yes people breakthrough and have great inmporvement in races, but at that point the results should then improve subsequently:
Something like this:

If that's really what happened, how is it that both runners bounced right back to their slower times the subsequent meets? In this case an important conference meet.
Two people claim they recorded splits on the two (cheating?) leaders. If you really did, please post the splits.

was anyone here actually there or are we just gonna listen to 4 different contradicting accounts of this "race"? maybe we should ask 2012 Olympic 10,000 silver medalist Galen Rupp if it was legit and take his word for it?
I just found this thread.
I can say that I was the one counting the laps for this race @ the Gina Relays and am 100% confident that this time is 100% legit. I had multiple people backing me up on the lap counting as well. I specifically remember the 5k split being in the low 17s and she did not let up one bit. I am prepared to offer anything else to prove the validity of this time.
I was at this race and I specifically remember counting exactly 24 laps. 5K splits were in the 18's. Hope that helps.
At this point video evidence will be needed to overturn this case in kangaroo court of cheating. It has been established the girl was not fit enough from previous results to this time. And might I add cheater cheater pumpkin eater

Is it necessarily the athlete's fault though? I mean it's not like she tried to cut the race short

I did a little research on her from back in high school. Call me a stalker, but I was interested to see where she came from since no one has heard of her until this winter. She ran a 21 minute pr in high school. She has since cut 4 minutes off her 5k to become a division III all-american. I don't know about you but it seems to me that she wasn't fit enough from high school to do what she's done so far, but she's somehow done it. I don't think we can assume that just because she's reeled off an amazing race that it can't be true. Like someone said really early in the post, she was 200th or so in cross country nationals and returned in indoor track to take 2nd. With these facts in mind, she could very well have been able to continue doing the incredible.

She came through 12 laps in 17:14. This of course is not 5K but 4800 meters as it seems everyone is confused about.
So when will she be taken off the performance list. for this obvious miscalculation
I didn't take the leaders' splits but we had an athlete in the race and took her splits and yes it was short. I thought this was common knowledge. We had her at 18:41 at 5k at 5K and she was not horrendously far off the lead by that point - half a lap at most. I can post those splits, not sure what it would prove about the leader.
Anyone want to Bet she never breaks 35 minutes again this year!...let a lone equals the mark.

Haters gonna Hate! Anyways, it would seem unlikely that she would run the same time this year, you nimrod. She isn't going to run another 10k before nationals, what would the point be? Getting dead legs? With nationals, you can throw times out the window. Everyone seems to think they have the best kick in the field. If eyewitnesses and actual lap-counters are saying that she ran the whole thing, that's enough for me. Conjecturing trolls, keep hating!
Great point. All of these folks think they know more than the people that were there plus Walt Drenth and Brian Diemer.

Not so. Did you see her run indoor nats? Led the whole way with a gap on the field, got outkicked by the 30-year-old with two kids. It's likely she'll race like that again and we'll see her real form.
