Sorry if you didn't have fun while competing but don't hold that against Nick. It sounds like some petty jealousy on your part. Are you mad that Nick is succesful and haves fun at the same time?

I was a 4:05 miler in college and also have my school beer mile record: which I ran in 5:44 the week after outdoor regionals. It is not an easy task. I am also a bigger guy, standing 6'3 and weighing 165. I could chug a beer in less than 4 second and I could put down a 32oz boot filled with miller high life in 9.3 second (also school record). I'm not bragging, but I say this to inform people that 5:07 is an amazing time! I have seen the video of the kid running it, and it is pretty damn impressive. The kid finished each of his 4 beers in less than 3 second.

I think my fourth beer took me around 15 seconds to drink and my last lap took almost 1:35 because I was trying not to puke the entire time. Spitting and puking disqualifies you.

Nick is 100x the runner I ever was. But I don't think people on this thread realize that there is a reason the 5 minute mark has yet to be broken. Nick might be able to break the record, but sub 4:45 is out of the question. If you dont beleive how difficult it is, go home and chug 4 beers in 5 minutes can do 10 jumping jacks.... Then post on this thread how you felt after.

However, the fact that Symmonds is filming himself "prepping" for this shows that he's just being his usual self-absorbed, twatty self and is not doing the beer mile because it's fun but to get more attention. it isn't the alcohol that makes it difficult, it is the carbonation. most ales are not as fizzy as typical american lager. I haven't had this beer, but if it has lower co2, it would be worlds easier to keep down while running.

If it was so low class then why do so many high class people do it?

You speak of it like its a disease, you attack someone like its your respect he should garner.

You right this big long story about how he is an alcholic, when the entire sentiment around the term is being unable to control your desire to drink, to complete a beer mile you have a very stable control over your drinking habits.

Competing internationally doesn't give you the right to judge someone who has completed on the Olympic stage, Twice.

Third place in every meet you ran is not "better" just "more"

Nick has been competing on the world stage longer than you've been and clearly his "low class" has gotten him pretty far. Not attempting a Beer mile is not going to prevent him from running 1:43 again and losing your respect is not going to prevent him from going to a third Olympics.

Really all he lost was a fan, which is pretty insignificant since nobody in your weaker days of running could even think of beating Nick at that Olympic Final.

Hi guys, I do love a good Chunder Mile v Beer Mile debate.

I am the hero (words of many others, i'm merely quoting) who ran 5m08.7 for the Chunder Mile in the UK.

Here is my summary:

The Chunder Mile is 'harder' physically but I can see how it can 'potentially' be faster by potentially being physically being able to down the pint faster than the can on a one off effort.... but that's also assuming that the extra volume, pain and need for sickness has negligible effect..... which it clearly does.

Its 12 fluid ounces for a can and 20fl.oz for a pint. so over all its 48fl.oz to 80fl.oz.... effectively they do just under 2.5 pints in BM.

In the CM one of the main difficulties is the pain of the volume in you and you are obviously going to be sick from drinking that volume so I think that it's an irrelevant point that sickness is allowed as most are only sick on the last lap or 3rd lap a bit but thats already after extra volume in a shorter space of time than with cans..... And then having to run while being sick and fearing death by choking - so again this should slow the CM time.

I videoed necking a can of coke the other day at first attempt and thats just under 10secs.... with practice i'm sure that could be 7/8 but defo slower than a pint which at best I will do around 6secs..... but thats for 1 can/pint.... im sure chug time for the can volume would remain pretty constant since theres not much volume whearas the drop off time in pint necking is substantial! I think I was 7s (63), 13s (67), 14s (69), 15s (60)......5m08

I conclude that with less volume I'd have lapped quicker (wouldn't have needed to ease off so much to catch breath or to not choke) and that necking time would be similar/negligible difference or if anything quicker in BM after 1st can. So I think it would have been a Sub-5 BM.

I also more importantly think that the great Chunder Milers could all make a very smooth transition to world's best Beer Milers, however, the best Beer Milers would probably lose 30-60+ seconds the other way around.
