I love the commitment he makes in the post-race interview to running in lane one from now on. He punches his ticket to London with that decision, IMO.

Separation of the Hamstring from the thigh is a nasty injury. I'm actually surprised that Wheating is running as well as he is at this time. However, if you compare yesterday's race (Harry Jerome) with some of his races from previous years, it is obvious that the hamstring issue is not cleared up. Wheating's stride seems to have shortened a bit, even when he is in full flight. Even a fraction of an inch difference has a major impact on overall speed. I'm not sure what he can do about it other than to continue getting it stretched and massagued and hope that he can get full range of motion back very soon. Very frankly, unless that is accomplished, he will not be a Trials threat.

Hopefully he will take his own advice; and also learn to throw an elbow, how push out with his hand if he needs to.

For the first time in a quarter century US distance runners are running comparable times to their African counterparts. However, since American runners have larger frames they get injured far more frequently. Maybe American runners should take Prefontaine's old advice and take the lead earlier on in the race. It makes no sense to try to out-kick the more nimble African runner.
