Improvements in 3000m do not necessarily correspond to improvements in 1500m. If he is now spectacular at 3000, but has lost some speed side capacity in the process, say 1sec slower on his flying 200m, he will run the same or slower at 1500m. It is always a balance of speed and stamina which determines his 1500m.
Also, the distance work needs to be useful. Lomong running a great 50 miler would bode rather poorly for his track racing.
Lagat is a symbol of days gone by when records were being broken regularly and runners laid the wood in every race.

Well, I'm a Farah fan so I hope I'm not being biased. I watched it a few times and I think Soi cut in a little early and forces Farah out of his lane.
That being said, I think a little contact is good for track once in a while. I didn't mind some of the earlier contact, but I think Soi might have gone a hair too far on the last turn. I'm not necessarily upset that the DQ was overturned, but I wouldn't have complained if it had stood.
Lagat would win
When Bekele ran 3,000m last in Paris against Lagat, he won the race in 7:28, and Lagat could hardly keep up with that pace.
With Bekele's absence guys are winning the championship in 7:41. Not interesting at all!
soi should have been dq'd (or, dq'd should have been upheld). He never established himself in lane 1 in front of Farah. He was 1/2 way in front, 1/2 way in lane 1, and then took one more step towards the rail and totally screwed Farah.

Only saw live and looked like they both had the elbows out before that which might be why it was overturned. Farah said afterwards he wasn't bothered wether he was 3rd or 4th anyway
