Doesn't 7th and 8th greaders run with high school in new york.
And some kids like intervals, just like some don't. One way isn't right nor is one way wrong. But the truth is all kids should be running 60 min a day whether you do intervals or not.
To hell with the "bring back the mile" campaign, try "RUN 60!"

Thanks neighborhood runner for all that you are doing. I agree that intervals are a great element for intro runners to optimize their improvement, when done in a fun and creative way. Once they are "hooked" more serious base building can commence. I think almost all of us admire what is happening there.
This all takes me back to 6th grade when I had my sister time me with a big clock with a second hand as I ran laps around our block (700m). My first intro to running that I came up with myself, trying to break my previous "records" every time. It would be another four years before I ran seriously and competed.

I'm marathon training right now and feeling like garbage! Not excited to race. Need to get strong but not tired and get hungry to race.
