Even China faked birth certs for gymnasts for their own Olympics, so don't put it past the Kenyans to get records. For this one they had the sense to use a date other than Jan 1.

This kid is pretty solidly built for a Kenyan. Most young Kenyans are very lanky and don't develop more muscle until later if at all. There is certainly a possibility that he is 17, but being a skeptic is not unfounded.

Could Galen Rupp could pass for 19 or under if no birth cert was available?

^Yes because Americans would always give exceptions to American runners but obviously not to Kenyans..

The Kenyan women's competitors maybe one of Kenyans most talented fields ever with over 5 women capable of winning but the story is the JUNIOR men.

How much will Isiah Koech win the World X Country title by this March? At the start of the season before his 12:53 indoor 5000m he beat one of the top junior Kenyans by 1 minute 5 seconds in a 8km race!

Will anyone finish within 200m of Isiah tomorrow -or- in the World Jr 8km X Championships?

If you know the Kenyan trials very well, you would not put your hopes too high. Expect a surprise tomorrow. Koech may not win a place in the Kenyan team. He may not even finish the race. If that happens, I will not be dissappointed. He just came back to Kenya a few days ago, so there will be low altitude effects and maybe jetlag. Secondly, his recent shape was on the track not cross country even though he ran some few nice cross country races in Europe. Lets give the guy time and he will prove himself, hopefully this summer. He is not going anywhere. But if this guy was an American, yeah, I would agree that he would destroy the field.

The 17 year teenager destroyed yet another World Youth BEST in the 3000m after his sensational 12:53 5000m. Isiah's 3000m Indoor Youth record is also the 3rd fastest youth performance indoors or outdoors. Just how many Youth records and World Junior records will this kid break. I HOPE I'M WRONG but I ask how many youth and world junior records because I don't see him running beyond 2013.

We do have birth certificates-most of us. I do have one and it is legitimate. Okay, I am not a runner but you get the point.

I'll just leave you with this;

Alan Webb and LeBron James look way older than their birth certificates. In fact, Webb looks way over 30.

To claim that every KEnyan/Ethiopian talented young discovery is 25 or whatever one claims is hopelessly cynical.

That said, no matter how old Isaiah is, he is a jewel and so is Almirew Yenew.

Isiah Koech looks like at 17 year old Kenyan too bad some posters refuse to accept such a young athlete is better than many of their idols. Isiah could be the first Youth runner at the age of 17 years old to run sub 12:50 and many simple minded posters can't accept such a feat at his real age.
