According to the Labor Department figures, there are now 1 million FEWER seasonally adjusted jobs than existed when Obama took office 22 months ago.

Obama needs to quit making soaring speeches devoid of substance, quit taking vacations, quit pandering to foreign countries, and GET TO WORK FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.

A good place to start would be to reject income tax increases for ANYONE and support making ALL of current tax rates permanent.

Over the past two years, Obama and the Democrat-controlled Congress have failed to listen to the wishes of the American people. For that, they were soundly rebuked during the November 2 elections where they lost at least 64 House seats.

Why has the unemployment rate in Germany dropped below 7% while the Dems's and Obama continue to lose ground -

Merkel adopted the GOP plan, reduce taxes on business, zero capital gains taxes, reduce business regulations, cut the length of unemployment benefits, reduce spending, and told Obama to pound sand when he suggested they do another stimulus - The result is Germany is booming and the Dems are scratching there heads.

We can no long afford "on the job training" of a community organizer that his idea of America keeps bringing us down more and more. All of you liberals that want to keep taking from those of us who work and pay our fair share of taxes should move to California or New York and then secede from the Union. I for one would be glad to see you go. I will take my chances with the RICH REPUBLICANS that you are always railing against. Those Republicans became rich because they know how to run a company that employs people. It has taken awhile as I wanted to give Obama as much time as possible to see if he could right the ship but the man is clueless when it comes to having any business sense. I too am sympathetic for those without jobs but at what point do you stop supporting them? 99 weeks, almost 2 years is ridiculous as it is and the Democrats don't even want to find a way to pay for it.

One good thing about the bad economy...if it keeps up it will ensure a one term Obama president and the taking of the senate by conservatives.

The GOP and Tea Party are obstructionists and No No Wimps and have brought the Senate and House to a standstill. No Unemployment bene extension will cause an increase in crime, incarceration and mental heath rates and will be a diaster for already bankrupt states and localities. At the same time the Tea Party and GOP wants welfare for the rich above $250K incomes, Farm Subsidies, free weapons and money for the US Zionist Colony in Palestine and Pentagon contractors. The Tea Party and GOP have been outed with this UE refusal and will LOSE BIG TIME in November 2012.

To answer the OP, no one is giving $700 billion to anyone. It's not the government's money. But somehow you just can't accept that. You are living in a different reality. This class warfare mentality has got to stop. It has warped your common sense.

How many months or years of UE benefits do you think I should pay for before they must take a lower paying job than UE pays?

Congress will have to float bonds to Saudi Arabia to pay the $700B in welfare to those above $250K. Remember that 90% of those in the $250K bracket are those that gross millions who have chipped down their incomes to avoid paying taxes. The Great Recession happened on Bush's watch, with a large majority of the years leading up to it ALSO with the congress controlled by Republicans (the 2 years the dems barely had an edge, NOTHING happened because of gridlock. Don't even try to pin the blame on dems for those gridlock years). So Repubs had control while the ship was ready to sink, and all of this happened AFTER the magic Bush tax cuts, which didn't nothing to help us avoid catastrophe.

And the "biggest tax increase in history" (what a load of garbage) never was in the works.

1) Obama already gave the middle class one of the biggest tax BREAKS in history (it was in the stimulus, but you like many others were dumb to know that)

2) Obama has always and only wanted to reverse tax breaks for the richest americans, which WERE NEVER PAID FOR IN THE FIRST PLACE

We are. We are getting rid of the $700B Welfare program for those that make over $250K per year. That will cut $700B from the Fed budget.

70+ posts and no justification for allowing 700 billion in tax cuts go unpaid for while complaining that we can't spend 13 billion for ue benefits.

Plus the 13 billion is more stimulative to the economy.

Plus several millionaires have asked for congress to not give them the extension.

It is often overlooked or completely misunderstood that the wealthy are also receiving a tax cut for their first 200k of income. So, in fact, they too are benefitting from the Democrats policy. People don't understand this because the conservatives contol the discussion, largely due to the loud mouths on FoxNews - and peoples genuine unwillingness to learn the issues.

Why aren't you asking "Why are the Democrats are holding up the middle class tax cut of 3 Trillion for 700B?" You spin it based on what "team" you are on.

The 700 Billion is for 10 years, since the taxes cuts will probably only be extended one or two years we are talking about 70-140 Billion, so your ratios are off. The middle tax tax cuts are much more related, and that is a cut of 3 TRILLION for the ten years, that is the ratio we should be looking at. Everyone wants to pass the 3 trillion, but the dems are holding it up for the 700B.

It is not an either or situation, it is only linked by each party playing a game of chicken. This is necessitated by our political environment, just like making sausage you have to judge on the final outcome.

The outcome is going to be we get the unemployment benefit extension, and we suspend all tax increases until we get out of our recession. The deficit committee has come up with some great ideas on lowering the deficit. I think any tax changes should wait until that is incorporated.

I agree with you that the unemployment benefit extension is more important(I am unemployed), it is just in politics you have to play hard ball.

That a couple billionaires share your opinion doesn't change the argument, just like me being unemployed and not wanting to raise taxes on the rich shouldn't enter into it either. The billionaires you speak of are so rich they do not really represent the people who would be paying the additional taxes. There is a huge difference between them and someone making just over $250,000 or even a million.

Yes, anytime you reduce or raise taxes across the board the are going to end up more affected because they pay more of the taxes. A small matter is the rich pay more in actual dollars on the lower income because they lose many of deductions and credits, they get phased out. The AMT also kicks in, and that is effecting more and more people. Another thing to point out is there are fewer rich people so the amount the actual 3 trillion dollar savings is probably more due to lower incomes.
