This just is not nearly as universally true as you make it sound.

I'm not sure why you think accounting is an inherently boring job; most people who think that have no idea what accounting is, but you seem to. Most of the "run-of-the-mill" accountants I know do greatly enjoy their jobs.

I do know accountants who don't like their job. I know just as many people who quit a job to pursue something they thought they like to do or had always wanted to do, only to hate that far more than they disliked their previous desk job.

It is great that you have had such a good experience and such success. But don't make yourself out to be a shining example that everyone should follow.

I think you sound like the 9.15 2 miler who said you chose to go to a WAC school cause, although Vin offered you a full ride at Oregon, the WAC school better fit your needs. ie your full of it.

Returning thread to original premise....I'm thinking of relocating to Tampa....I guess first question is anyone know what Big 4 salaries like there....cause I've done a bit of apartment hunting and they seem really cheap...3 bedrooms for $1200....so I'm wondering whether low cost of living means low salaries or what...

Also....anyone any thoughts on living in this area...my wife has health condition made worse by adverse weather which is why we're looking for the sun...i suggested saudi arabia...but that did not go down to well...

most companies were so impressed i came from a big4 that they didnt even really care what the heck i did there

The vast majority of people who fail at running their own business just have no idea how to run a business...the work ethic involved or the know-how.

Read on an accounting blog that raises and even bonuses seem to be a bit better this time round.

Anyone still in Big 4 care to share?

My office has lost about 35 of the 50 seniors that we had this time last year - and as such are trying hard to keep those that they think will move through to manager. I'm not sure if that will be reflected in October payroll communications as surely the decisions on those were made months ago.
