I have known Erin for a while now, and all i can say is that she eats healthy foods, trains like a monster and races like a champion.

She looks better in a bikini than 99.999% of the women in the world, and is actually very feminine.

You see pictures of her when she is racing a mid-distance sprint, and think she walks around with muscles bulging out of every corner of her body.

I doubt she is 143 lbs or whatever is posted, they probably do that to screw with idiots like you.

She would maul most of you in any race, so quit acting like she sucks.

The most improtant thing that body gives her is the ability to handle a tough training load; one of her problems with Cook was that she wanted to train harder. Erin is not particularly quick in terms of raw speed and and at her size anything longer than 3k is out of the question. No saying Erin does not have talent, but the key for her is out working other athletes; she was like that even as an basketball player. If left only, she will train herself to death. In high school, Erin use to sneak out at night to get extra miles in the day before a meet.

It is hard not to route for someone who is very nice person and has to work extra hard for what they get. Btw, like several people have said, she really dose not look big person; you take the average girl off the street and put them in running shorts and they will look much bigger. And, in spite of how aggressively she competes, she has a very gentle personality. - I hope she keeps on improving.

1:59.9 in the tables is equal to about a 4:26/27 mile. So I say a 4:07/4:08 1500 is a good estimate. A 4:03 1500 is around a 1:58.0 800. Not sure how much gender as to do with the everything, maybe a lot.

In terms of competitiveness, her PR is better in the 1500. 4:03 typically puts you in the world's top 25 for the year, 1:59.99 typically does not.

right, but the 1500 has always been her event. you have to look at how she ran 2:02-2:01ish when she was running 4:07-4:05. she's already run 4:03, based on a 1:59 from her i don't think an assault at 4:01-3:59 right now is out of the question at all. cook can go to hell.

solinsky "ate everything." donohue lifted because she was an all-state basketball player and state champ javelin thrower. just go with the flow yo. distance running is about merciless hard work. and you gotta love that hard work. some do some don't, regardless their talent. these two love it.

Women tend to give up less from 800 to 1500 than men do. The 800 is fast enough that your absolute top end speed plays a bigger role. So for example, a male high schooler able to run 1:59 in the 800 probably could only run a 4:04-8ish 1500, but (as the post with elite American women's 800 PRs illustrates) you can pretty much just double a female 800 time to get an equivalent 1500, at least for the "endurance" type 800 runners.

No way is Erin 143 LBS. She might be 132-135 tops

1500 - 4:14.50 = 800x2 + 12.35 seconds

boys high school records

800 - 1:46.45

1500 - 3:38.26 = 800x2 + 5.36 seconds

women's world records

800 - 1:53.28

1500 - 3:50.46 = 2x800 + 3.90

men's world records

800 - 1:41.11

1500 - 3:26.0 = 2x800 + 3.78

Totally agree with the 'effing morons' post. Good for Erin. I know her, have trained with her and she is a beast of a runner and a good person like many others have pointed out. I also take issue with the premise that she wouldnt be good at marathoning. I've seen her firsthand on an 18 miler and she would be a fine marathoner, has great endurance and of course is mentally tough. I bet she could go low 2:30s tomorrow, maybe faster, who knows.

Most of you are just jealous that despite what is perceived as physical shortcomings (not being an anorexic dorky looking waif like many posters here), she is an Olympian, a WC competitor, a great championship style racer (dont you guy all dis people who dont do well in champ races?), and she has accomplished what 99.99% of the posters here have not - and that is what drives you all nuts about her.

I think Erin is great. Now suppose you knew something about running, but you didn't know who Erin Donohue was. And also suppose you went to see "The Erin Donohue Story" (biographical sports film)starring Erin Donohue in the title role. Wouldn't you say, "No way, she was miscast. Not believable as a runner, just like the guy in 'The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner', nobody who is a good runner looks like that or runs like that."?

I've never been one to chime on one of these "runchick is too fat/too heavy" threads just because I feel they are completely unwarranted and unproductive. I will make an exception here, and this will probably be my only exception.

I've seen Donohue run once in person, Falmouth Mile (last year I think). My first response was that she didn't look fit, she looked soft and overweight. After her race I was convinced that the pimple-popping-message-board-f***heads were right for once.

My conclusion was this. If Erin Donohue wanted to make $500k a year and be the greatest female middle distance runner in history all she would have to do is cut 10 pounds. She would be unstoppable, running 3:55s at will.

Or if she wanted to keep the status quo she should just continue what she's doing now. She'll eventually get under 4:00, perhaps even a few times, but nowhere near what her potential ceiling could be.

I spent about 20 minutes with Erin at a recent meet and after reading so much about her weight I was stunned at how fit she looked. Yeah, skinny even. (and she's incredibly nice, friendly and funny)

You people are completely insane if you think she's heavy. Maybe next to some of these emaciated Duke waifs.

You don't run 1:59 and 4:03 if you're not healthy and incredibly fit.
