I fully support you on high-entry-fee-no-prize money thing. I take the approach no-comp I do not run. I am not that fast (2:23:57 in St. George), but fast enough to get a comp from race directors that care. If they do not and I cannot find the ones that do close enough, I am happy to gather a couple of friends and run a time trial instead.
