D3 You are simply not for me
D2 I'm glad I'm not u
NAIA-i dont even no what to say...but its nothing good...ok?
D1: You are the one, you are the reason why I run, without you there is no sun, its through you that collegiate track and field has begun. Unfortunately, you've grown so much that a few new branches have sprung (D2, D3, NAIAwhatever). But lets be honest they are on the bottom rung. I hope those branches wither, then, and only then, will US distance running be complete. College nationals should be one elite meet. Whoever meets the standards may compete, however, there should be no baby nationals for those who have PBs that are deplete..... of any recognition. We need to consolidate the best competition, to make D1 the one and only indivisble division, that should be our mission....We need to act now...by the looks of it the Africans could use the competition!!....that is all... this is my petition...however, it may just be hopeful wishing.

I think in the Centennials the Dickinson-Haverford mens match up will be a good one. Dickinson is at its peak, and will continue to get better. Haverford is always good. Both are rumored to have a few decent recruits, so a tight rivalry will continue into the future. Last year, Dickinson crushed Haverford in XC, then Haverford crushed Dickinson's distance team on the track. What a battle this will be this fall!
At regionals, I think you could have the right top 5, but not in that order. CMU and Allegheny always run their best at that meet. It will be tight between the top 4 -- Haverford, Dickinson, CMU, and Allegheny. I'd put Etown between 5-8, not 4th.
Another men's team that could be in the mix for that 5th spot would be Gettysburg. Don't be surprised if you see the Bullets firing away at regionals. They have a good coaching staff and the team likes them. So they've been responding to changes made there in recent years.
But, I'm not sure the region has 5 national level teams this year too. So I'll predict 4 teams to nationals.
While I think it should be tight among those top 4 squads (Allegheny, Dickinson, Haverford, CMU), the first two of those teams seem to have some clear front-runners, while the last two do not. CMU graduated Harvey, and Haverford had Letts and Ramsey-North when they were the top team. Not sure who's up there for those teams this year (unless O'Toole from HV does have another cross season, though he seems a lot more trackish anyway).
I'm sure new guys could step up, but still worthwhile to note.
Regardless of whether OToole has eligibility left, I'm almost positive he graduated from Haverford, so he can't use it there. Maybe if he's in a grad program at some UAA school he'll be running, but you can't run at a school you don't attend.
On the men's side, this has become a very good region all of a sudden. Just an opinion, here, but when i look at the 08 results...
Cmu loses their 1,3,5,7 ouch.
Allegheny has everyone back and some scary frontrunners- I can't see how they're not the favorite.
Dickinson has everyone back as well, also quite good.
Haverford lost their top 3 plus their 7. They have always reloaded in the past, but the region is not as weak as before.
Etown lost their 3 and 6. The rest of the team was a soph and 4 freshmen. And they had less than a minute split. They'll either be a little better, or a lot better.
Gettysburg lost their 5,6,7 and their 6 and 7 were midpack guys which suggests there is no depth. Probably not a top 5 team unless CMU crumbles.
Allegheny and Dickinson duke it out for 1, 2.
3. Haverford
4. Elizabethtown
5. Carnegie Mellon
The Mideast will get two at-large, even though it should get three.
watch out for Thiel or Penn State Erie....
Penn State Erie - get real...the coach is a moron, he got the job because his daddy was the coach before him...when he was a runner there he did his utter best to get the coach replaced with his daddy and they both conspired to make life miserable for previous coaches.
Penn State Erie is probably one of the biggest disappointments in the mideast when it comes to xc. When they became an NCAA DIII school within the last decade, they seemed like they were on the rise, and every coach in the region had them on their radar to keep an eye on. Then, they disappeared from the radar as they never got better and only got worse. A school like that should be more dominant in the mideast than they are. Certainly there's a coaching issue there.
Thiel is just a joke of a cross country team.
The mideast really only has 5-8 men's programs and maybe 4-5 women's teams that are decent enough to deserve attention on Letsrun. Let's not waste time talking about joke programs, which is most of the mideast.
Slightly off topic, but I'm considering some mid-east schools. I know who the top contenders are, but out of the mid-east schools, which ones have the best training environment? (Trails, dirt roads, access, state Parks nearby, hills)
call the coach and ask.
Dear Big G.
Once classes start, most programs are running close to campus. Urban settings probably aren't your best option if you are looking for trails. Of the top programs in the mideast, here's what I know.
Gettysburg = runs through the battlefields
CMU = nearby park, very urban campus though
Allegheny = some nearby trails and fields; plenty of hills
Dickinson = nearby trails, mostly rural roads, heavy truck traffic in area and tons of exhaust
Haverford = urban but nice runs on campus if you enjoy feeling like a hampster
Elizabethtown = nearby trails; rural roads
Messiah = hilly trails and fields; rural roads; quite enjoyable if you want to avoid beer and parties too
There's no other program worth looking at in the Mideast DIII.
any idea on what the new rankings will be?

dickinson invite this weekend should be good, a lot of quality teams itll be interesting
only top mens theams that should be missing based on who has shown up in the past are Allegheny and Haverford.
rumor from Paul short meet is that karwoski was kicked off the team at Dickinson. he did not run and it really screwed them.
Noticed he wasn't in the results and that hurt them for sure. Allegheny and Haverford both looked solid.
In the Brown race Hopkins looked to prove that they are the 5th best team in the region right now as Etown got crushed.
