Webb's 1500m withdrawal

Ahem, back to Alan Webb:

1) Injuries happen. Nobody called out Tyson Gay for being a sop when he got hurt at the 2008 OTs. Now look at him. #3 all time in the 200m, 9.75 no problem in the prelims.

2) Alan Webb looked great in the prelims. Sat back early, confidently moved up, and eased off when he knew he'd qualified. We later learned that in this very race, when he looked so good, he had strained his hamstring. So he did all that while injured!

3) If he really did strain his hamstring, does anyone know a ballpark recovery time? i.e. will we see him in Europe this summer?

Sorry about that, I just had to rip on one a-hole talkin some shiznit. As far as alan webb goes, he's just having a tough year again due to injury. I don't know what razcko is doing but I just hope they can get it together. Webb should be around sub-3:30 right now and I still haven't given up on him yet unlike a lot of other untalented know it all losers who continually bash him whenever they get the chance. I would contact the moderators but it seems like the brojos enjoy this type of nonsense. Webb has like one of the fastest mile times ever run in this decade and for people to kick him when he's down especially the american fans is beyond me.

He might need a change of environment. Something tells me he is not the type to do that easily though.

Webb is the fastest miler in the world for the best part of a decade, and now he can't even assert himself over college guys, it is our duty to question this.

Sure it can be done in a tasteful way but it is good to be sceptical sometimes. Webb and his manager have sighted a hamstring injury... he would not be the first athlete to drop out of a major comp early due to a minor injury, that gets better in a few weeks.

As for people suggesting losing weight, and blood tests!! Give me a break, Webb is a very well paid professional athlete, with a lot resources at his disposal there is no way this should be the problem.

There are two and only two possible explanations:

a) Razcko is a very bad coach.

or

b) Webb was previously on drugs.

However I very much doubt Razcko is that bad a coach. Correct me if I am wrong, but Razcko is the guy that "coached" Webb to that 1.43 800m/3.46 mile season - so for me this argument is null and void. Furthermore as you pointed out, AW is a highly paid professional and should know what the hell he is doing by now with regards to training. This worldwide insistence on blaming coaches for the poor performance of highly paid pro sportspeople is absolute junk. Goes right from the NFL, NBA through to professional soccer and now also apparently to professional running.

Bottom line is, Alan Webb is the most unlikely 1.43/3.46 runner in the history of the world. With his 3.46 mile, he is in the same category of elite runners that have ALL either won Olympic or World Championship titles over the 1500m/5000m events. Look it up. Alan Webb is just not simply in this class and never has/will be. None of those athletes EVER fluctuated in performance the way AW has done. And even accounting for "bad training" there is simply no way that a 3.46 miler becomes this bad. It is quite evident only a handful of people on these boards truly understand the talent level that is required to run a 3.46 mile and those that do will also understand that there is simply no way an athlete with that much talent EVER gets to the point where he is getting roughed up and taken to the cleaners by the types of runners that have done just that to Webb over the last two seasons.

The "explanation" is that Alan Webb took performance enhancing drugs when he became the American record holder over the mile.

Look, its not really that bad. Morocco, France, Spain hell even Kenya has a drug cheat as its 1500m record holder. Everyone does it.

But the "search for answers" regarding why this guy now sucks is absolutely trivial.

If only Lamong and Manazono filled in the void left by Webb all these negative Webb threads would vanish. Lets be honest we are not really knocking Webb, but the plight of US mile running. One thing Webb can't be blamed for is the lack of depth inUS 1500 meter running. What did you expect when Lagat and Webb are taken out of the equation. It is not like we have other 3:30 guys waiting in the wings.

Man, what a relief it would be to see either Lamong or Manazono in the finals. Forget about the third US runner. I have never heard of him, but one thing is for sure I bet his PR is no better than 3:38.

Yes! We all got our hopes up about the possibility of medals at middle distances for the USA. That's not a knock on Lagat, I like the guy and root for him, but it's a little different when an athlete wasn't born here. I still think of him as American but the relate-ability is just slightly different.

Well when I saw that weight room and the rocky posters the first thing I thought was here's problem number one. The combination of lifting too much and bulking up and getting on that computer and filling his head with the negativity here can not be good.

I really think he needs a change of environment and to get training with a good group. That may help eliminate some of the doubt that he obviously has. When a group is running well it helps you to run well and you don't have to wonder if what your doing is right or works.

A sports psychologist may not me bad either. Working for Salazars group. I assume Jerry's guys are using one as well now.

1) Webb isn't doping? Well evidently not any more. But to suggest that merely because he hasn't failed a drug test has has never cheated is about as ignorant, moronic and short sighted as it comes. Up until 2009, Rashid Ramzi had "never cheated" either and you think he never tested positive because he wasn't being tested? I guess he just started cheating for Beijing AFTER he took his PR from 3.40 to 3.30 in one season and did the 8/15 double at the World Championships. NOT testing positive in this day and age (particularly before the EPO/CERA test was created) means absolutely nothing. For f***s sake, they don't even have a test for HGH yet and still have these ridiculous "acceptable" levels for testosterone, nandrolone that are so easy to get around with the right team and money behind you. Open your f***ing eyes dude.

For a start Marion Jones still holds the national records for your nation and on the mens side the history of the 100m record (just as a case in point) is littered with people either implicated or caught for cheating. 3) Other 1.43/3.46 guys devoid of championship medals? Well first of all you moron - I am not just talking about medals - I am talking about TITLES. WINNING. So go ahead - name them? Because unlike you, I know the 10 fastest milers of all time and can tell you that the tenth guy on that list is Sebastian Coe. I can also tell you that every other guy on that list has WON either an Olympic Games or World Championship title over 1500/5000m. So between these top ten guys there are about fifty global GOLD medals and f*** knows how many silver and bronzes and AW contributes nothing to those tallies. Now to me, that would seem a little out of place.

4) So how might "I" know what type of talent it takes? Well, I have run in an Olympic Games, World Championships, and World Cup and run professionally in Europe for nearly ten years. I have stayed with, trained with and seen the type of talents it takes to run these times (including a 3.43 mile/Olympic title). So whether you want to hear this or not, I DO understand the type of talent it takes to run that fast. And I know that AW and his stumpy little shuffle, washing machine-style arm action and consistent blowouts of fluctuating performance is not the type of talent to run that fast clean. If he was that talented he wouldn't be having bad races where he is at times running 12-13 seconds slower than his peak performances. Not for someone that ONLY trains, has the best physio/medical/health care money can buy. No f***ing way.

You mentioned most prominent European countries. I think it's fair to say you were implying the majority of national record holders dope. But hmmm, weren't we talking about 1500m runners? Right! So it makes sense to bring up sprinters.

3:46 is a bad time to base your "oh he's on drugs" claim - since it's roughly equiv to 3:30. There are a lot more guys that have run 3:30, merely because the mile is rarely run, blah blah, etc. there are plenty of men (not a plethora, but quite a few) who have no meaningful titles who have run those times.

and yeah, it's also great to change the conditions of your argument when you're losing. keep that up.
