Sure there are exceptions - but by and large the women themselves don't even care.

I run for a club where girls who runs 4-6miles/day 5 days a week end up going to USATF national meets and almost get lapped in the mile.

Women do not care about sports very much - they think they do...but how many post-collegiate women are running 90+miles/week to really go for it? 50? 100?

There are probably 10,000 guys who do this.

The fact of the matter is, top level athletes are great to watch. Men's races are often times more interesting. But not always, womens races should not be discounted as lacking all excitement. As far as your PR's being all below women's world records, you shouldn't be fooled into thinking people want to watch you run 14:10, because that is just as uneventful as watching a gal run 15:20 or something. And I hope you have never run a marathon, because if you are a sub 2:15 guy, you are not someone I want representing the USA ever. You have no class. Aldo you need to count your blessings, and understand the sport of track and field is great as a Sport. Respect it and be thankful you have the ability to be fast.

the only reason we have females as the "face" of T&F is because we don't have a dominating male performer.

Anyways yes I follow it just as much as the men's stuff... let's be honest, someone like Paula probably has ran faster than me in almost every distance.. I am cool with that because it's damn fast! Only time I felt cheated was the beginning of the women's 5k at the Olympics (correct if wrong)??? but I think it started out in a blistering 8-3 second pace.. like cam an. Either way, women's racing v. men's racing is not much of issue for me.

Have you guys ever been to a NCAA Track meet? There are so many attractive women in ALL the events, it's awesome. I don't think there's a single other sport in the world where you watch so many beautiful women for hours and hours. I think the male population is really missing out on Women's NCAA Track. I think if the average guy went to a Women's track meet and saw all the women around they would love the sport forever, it is seriously nothing but eye candy and it's glorious.

I hate to be the one giving a history lesson that I lived through, but fyi - Title IX was only passed in 1974 and you would find it hard to believe but few schools had women's cross country or track before that. I'm just an old redneck from Kentucky but the mere mention that somehow women track athletes are somehow less than the men is as knuckle dragging a comment as I have ever heard.

I'm a guy, I definitely enjoy womens racing. Most times more than men.

Some of the arguments on here make no sense. 'The guys are going faster' - who cares, are the guys racing the girls? if all you care about is velocity why watch anything but the 200m?

And besides if the race gets boring, does it ever really hurt to watch shalane or kara or rowbury run around the track in a sports bra and basically swimsuit bottoms? I can't say the same for a men's race...

I care about it because of all the very attractive women that you find at meets. Can't beat it.

As far as racing though, who cares. Let's be honest, its just not as exciting to watch something done at a much slower pace.

A slow tactical race for men will still be faster then the womens race going all out and getting strung out.

I've noticed more and more how strung out the races get for women even a lap or two in sometimes. Just not nearly as competitive. You almost never see men fall off the pace that fast.

Plus, they can never have an actual world record. It must state *Women's* World record. A "world record" when hundreds of high school boys every year run/jump/throw faster/higher/farther ha.

loving your spin on things. couldn't agree more. although the racing kinda takes priority.... absolute speed is insignificant.

The women\'s 5K at the Pac10 meet was a great example of this. There was the drama of Chetelat leading most of the race, Blood running her down to make it interesting, Lawrence and Campbell starting slow then working together to stalk the leaders and finally Centrowitz running a great last lap to blow past Nicole in the home stretch. Very entertaining and the time didn\'t really matter. The fact that 6 women had legitimate chances to win that day with a few laps to go made the race.

First, I'm a guy. I'm more interested in men's running because my main competition is other men. I'd expect ladies to be more interested in women's running for the same reason.

I do also prefer men's running over women's because there's more depth. It's more fun to see a bunch of people battle it out in a close, hard-fought race than the field get spread out. This is true for men's and women's races, but this is more common in women's races.

That said, I still follow women's running; am more excited about Rowbury, Flanagan and Goucher than most of the current male professionals; and think that Radcliffe's WR is the best mark in distance running, yet she gets overlooked on this website.

Just my two cents.

Yep. I do. Running of any kind is the only women's athletic event I'm interested in unless it's the Olympics, then I'm interested in US teams.

But I'm as interested to see a decent women's time in a distance race as I am a fast men's time.
