Which of Lance's books do you mean? I think he wrote two of them.

I was given his first book as a present. I got Bruyneel's book for free (at a road race of all places) so when I read this thread yesterday, I decided to check this out for myself last night.

In Lance's first book he talks about one day riding up Beech mountain (in the United States) which took hours. Then instead of getting a ride back, he rides home. He also talks about Riding in the Alps in the sleet rain and sleet for 7 hours. There is no mention I can see of a session in which he rode up for 4 hours (on what mountain could he do that anyway?) and then back down and back up again.

In the foreword to Bruyneels book he talks about a session riding up Hautacam, then going back down and riding it again.

That's 3 completely different rides.

Or did you mean his second book?

"It's not about the bike" page 272-273: four hours up, back down, and four hours up again. On the Hautacam. The dialogue with Bruyneel is practically word for word with the foreword in Bruyneel's new book except ride duration has shrunk considerably.

Ooops, my mistake. I did finally find it. In the very back of his first book. He does indeed say he rode up for 4 hours then down and up for another 4.

Personally I think it's fairly obvious that this is simply a transcription mistake on the part of Sally Jenkins (who ghost-wrote Armstrong's book) it as there is no way it would take Lance Armstrong anywhere near 4 hours (or even half that) to make the roughly 10 mile climb of Hautacam, even going at an easy pace.

But the discrepancy is indeed there.
