Actually, there isn't a single food that could keep you alive if it was the only food you could ever eat. It's impossible. No food is a combination of wheat, protean, fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy and fats. You have to have a balanced food group with the varied amount of carbohydrates in every meal to stay alive... so me... I'd have a Vegas Style Buffet... if that's alright[quote]Katy Lied wrote:
coconuts: really. and provide fuel and clothing, too.

You don't need all that stuff. People haven't had access to wheat and dairy for very long, so I imagine they could live without it.
Actually, beef would do a fine job keeping you alive for a very long time. See for example:

You folks have overlooked Kiwi. It is by far the most complete nutritional food source
The answer is quinoa, idiots.
yes, quinoa. carbs and complete protein.

If we're talking processed foods, then something like a clif bar (there's probably a better specific bar) would be it as they're intentionally made to give you everything you need, protein, fats, carbs, vitamins and minerals.
It's a lot harder for raw/whole foods, there are a number that are close, so if you could have just two foods it would be a lot easier, but even the best ones all seem to be missing a few key parts.
Like Quinoa, it is very complete, but no vitamins B12 or C mean you'll suffer from Scurvy first and if that doesn't get you the neurological problems associated with B12 deficiency will. It's pretty weak on fats too.
Broccoli has plenty of C and most other vitamins, as well as all amino acids, but no B12 or fat either.
Now if you could say an entire animal, like a cow, then you could probably scrounge up everything you need from some part of it.
I'd be curious to hear if there is any single food source that could keep you alive indefinitely.
