Maybe if basketball started in the 80s. Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlin at PF and C.

Nice thread! I enjoyed every bit of it.
Here are a few incontrovertible facts;
1. MJ was way better than KB in his hey days!
2. KB is was way better than LJ in his (KB's) hey days! He has slackened but he is still very good.
3. Obama should stick to basketball and forget about bowling.
4. The media has now started putting Obama under the spotlight something they should have done in October, 2007.
5. The high oil prices will ruin the U.S. economy even further if the trend continues.
To quote someone here, don't reply for I am right.

Kobe is better than Lebron, currently- This is a fact, dont argue.
You would be correct if you wrote that in March of 2007. That statement is incorrect now. Lebron has no chance for the MVP this year because the team had a subpar year with the injuries and trade. It is unbelievable that a player had one of the best all around seasons in the history of the league (30 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1 block per game)and may come in 4th in the mvp. Of course this award means nothing as Dirk won it last year and led his team to a first round exit while Lebron didn't even make the first team and led his team to the finals.
Don't forget, in the two games that Cleveland and LA played this year, Lebron held Kobe to 15% shooting in the 4th quarter as the Cavs won both games. If you had watched those head to head matchups, you would have seen that Lebron has clearly gotten better than Kobe at this time.

Hey Lakers Fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Where's your MVP chant now?
As long as you're asking, it happens to be on the front page at ESPN.com!
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3379397And just for good measure, your man LeBron happens to agree.

LoL!! Only in your franchise season on NBA 2K8! Fact, don't argue.

he's right. i love it when people dig up old prediction threads like this and they're terribly incorrect.
case clozed.
I started rooting for Kobe and LA. I have never done that before.
Then I saw pompous Jack and got second thoughts about rooting for LA.

The torch has been passed to Lebron.
It's right here...MVP, MVP, MVP!
Where is Rippy? Has he gone into hiding? LoL!!
Rippy also picked Illinois over USC in the Rose Bowl, which just may be the most amusing thing I've read all year on letsrun...
Doesn't matter that Kobe won the MVP... the Hornets will beat the Lakers! They're having no trouble handling the Spurs and just about swept the Mavs.

Are you talking about the same Hornets that lost their "must-win" showdown against the Lakers three weeks ago? They won't have home court advantage, either.
Good luck with that!
So, where DID Rippy go? On the other hand, I can't blame him for entering the witness protection program in the aftermath of the events over the last two days:
- His man LeBron lays an egg against the Celtics, shooting 2-18 from the floor with more turnovers (10) than assists!
- The very next evening, those MVP chant for Kobe became a reality!
Sorry, Rippy. Hopefully you know a great deal more about track & field than you do about pro basketball!
... or college football.

LoL!! The hits just keep on coming! Kobe was the only unanimous choice for the first-team All-NBA squad...

It gets better. In two full games, LeBron was 8-42 from the floor!! That's a crisp 19% for Rippy's "chosen one!"
Don't worry. I never run and hide. I also don't bet money on my predictions. Of course Lebron is going to say Kobe is the best. Lebron always says the right thing. I am still trying to figure our how Kobe is all the sudden a better team player when his stats are identical to the last few years. He didn't become a better player, he just got better players on his team. The additions of Derek Fisher and Pau Gasol are the difference. I guess you could give Kobe some credit for not shooting so much since he only made 45.9 percent of his shots and Gasol and Odom are well over 50%.
Don't be too quick to judge Lebron's last two games. Kobe was 6 for 25 and 9 for 21 in the regular season against Boston. Lebron had the same start last year against Detroit but came back and had one of the greatest playoff games ever in game 5.
Lebron has been putting up numbers that only two other guys in the history of the league have done, but he is so consistent, it has just become expected. He averaged 29 points, 9.5 rebounds and 7 assists putting up 27/13/13 in the series final game but still was only voted the 5th best first round performer on ESPN. To someone who has been watching the game for 35 years, that is just amazing.
And Lakers fans, while Kobe did win this year, you may want to save your chants for games you actually WIN. Makes you look pretty stupid otherwise.

Well, it won't last forever, but somehow that whole "losing" thing hasn't been a problem that we have had to face for the last MONTH!!!

Congratulations. Just remember, there is still a long way to go.
I think Kobe deserved the MVP, although I think CP3 should have been much closer in the voting. The first team all-stars were about right, in my opinion. I can't believe how bad the Cavaliers look, when Lebron is not firing on all cylinders. And it's interesting to think that if Duncan hadn't hit his only 3 of the season, to put the Spurs into Double OT with the Suns, it might all be diffent. Genobli (sp?) totally rocks. I think the Spurs ultimate fate depends on him, more than Duncan or Parker.
