I say make people pick one posting name, and use that name only, or not post at all. Posting here is a privilege, not a right, correct? (And I'm a liberal, relatively speaking.) I just think that it will get people to be a bit more civil, and more importantly, encourage them to stand by what they've said, for better or worse. Even though a sign in nickname is still technically "anonymous."

What is stopping people from posting funny/obscene/goofy stories under their own name?! I dont know why people think that they have to be anonymous and that everyone will just shut up if the cant have their wonderful secret identity. Enough people are addicted to this board that theyll register if they have to no matter what people say now.
Also as other people say having to use one name basically keeps you from acting like a total dick- is that so bad? ANother thing I just dont get why people are worried about putting their actual real name by what they say. If you act like a normal person and are not an elite runner noone cares who you are and its still just your ideas that are discussed.
Anyway registration would be good.
A few years ago I anonymously criticized a coach on this board, and he was subsequently fired. I didn't have anything to do with it, but if I could have been traced I would have not said what I did. I would keep things the way they are because it allows us to really spill our guts-and that's what makes this message board so good.
One suspicion I have is that wejo is sick of babysitting the trolls around here. I don't blame him for that.
Another suspicion is that he's trying to clean this board up so that it will appeal more to the RW crowd and draw more ad $.
The goose that laid the golden egg is being marked for slaughter. My prediction if registration goes through is that within a few years there will be another upstart running message board nipping at letsruns heels.
I am registered on another board (not running related), which requires you to use one screen name. It definitely does stifle content, because you can search for all postings by that name and sometimes figure out the poster's identity based on the total sum of their postings. Posting stuff anonymously doesn't mean the content will be untrue. Sometimes the truth needs to come out without fear of repercussions, and that is a good thing.

The "fun" part of this website is the ability to treat other people like crap with out having to stop being a coward. I only flip people off in traffic if they are going the other direction. I only yell obscenities at other people if I can run away or if they don't see me. This is the perfect place for all fellow cowards to come and be a bully. I can be big and tough in here and treat others like I have been treated all of my life. Other web-sites don't allow bullying or putting people down for fun.. please don't take it away from us!! I'm not ready to stop being a coward!
I support full registration. The volume of posts would go down, but the quality would go up. And that will increase readership.

Personally, I would suggest utilizing both methods.
Unless you are paying your ISP for a static IP address, it is periodically going to change. Additionally, anybody who would go to all the trouble to create a separate e-mail address specifically to continue trolling is probably aware of anonymous web-based proxy servers, too.
Of course, even registration can create problems. Someone (gee I wonder who) registered my last name. And it wasn't a case of his last name being Skuja too, as you will see by looking at any of the posts.

They have been known to do that. It happened to me on these boards. I couldn't help out with computer related Q&A for a while because most of metropolitan Las Vegas was banned! Under the circumstances, that seems to be a little drastic.

I agree. This board, for all it's shenanigans, has taken trollism to a new level and in a good way.
Some of the stuff is dasm funny and I think it'll be killed off by too much policing. The board will be deader for it.
To do this would be a grievous sin, my child.
