Lagat, Cacho, Kipchirchir Komen, Niyongabo, Chirchir, Komen, Maree, and Rotich never went under 1:45.

Ngeny, Morceli, Baala, Ramzi, Aouita and Cram all had world-class 800/1K times to go along with their sub-3:30s. You can add El G to that list if you buy the reported 1:42 he ran in a practice session.

Now, in my opinion, all sub-3:30 guys are capable of a world-class 800 time. I think Niyongabo is the slowest guy under 3:30 in terms of pure footspeed

Slower than Maree??? The dude was a pure strength runner, as was the EPOed-to-near-death Komen.

yeah but el g was faster than all these guys and what did he run in the 800 - wasn't he mostly a 1:44 guy (just a guess I'm not sure)

Exactly....Webb would destroy those guys in a 3K/5K/10K. You can add Steve Scott to the mix. Webb has more strength. His 800 time is plenty fast enough to run a blazing 1500.

Can we add Coe to that list? I think he ran a few "world class 800/1k times" to go along with his sub 3:30, don't you? (or maybe you forgot he ran sub 3:30).

[and in this discussion, let's be fair people. Talking about what someone's PR is an event they rarely ran is fairly meaningless. El G almost never ran serious 800's. He might have run been able to go 1:42 flat, or maybe only 1:43. We'll never know, but he had speed. With others it is also hard to say exactly what their 800 potential was. Webb? If he really focused on the 800, he could run 1:44 flat probably ]

Webb's a different kind of runner. When Ovett ran that 800m PB his 1500m best was 3:34.
