I can't believe I found this on my own: Regina Jacobs Being Inducted into Ethnic Hall of Fame

I got the idea to email the Oakland Temple to let them know what was going on.

To Whom It May Concern:

Could you please forward this message to the appropriate people in your organization?

The reason I am contacting you is in concern of an event that is being held at your temple this Friday 2/9/7. The African American Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame is hosting its annual bay area induction ceremony at your temple. The reason this is concern to my self and the running community is that the African American Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame is planning on inducting a Track and Field athlete by the name of Regina Jacobs. Regina Jacobs is currently banned from any athletic competitions because she tested positive for performance enhancing drugs. The banned athletes list can be found here:

Jacobs is connected to Berry Bonds as both athletes consumed illegal performance enhancing drugs in the BALCO scandal that made world head-lines. If Jacobs is allowed to be inducted to the hall of fame I feel that it will further drag track and field though the mud and possibly the name of your temple. This event will defiantly draw local media attention if not national attention likely mentioning the venue such an action took place.

As your temple is founded on faith and morals I felt it was my duty to inform you that such actions were scheduled to take place this Friday. Please consider influencing the African American Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame to reconsider and allow Regina Jacobs into their Hall of Fame as she does not deserve to be honored.

I agree somewhat with what Perspective says, but isn't the battle for a clean sport on many fronts? The poster that came up with the site to voice your opinion to gave us a simple 1-minute task that all of us could do that might in some miniscule way change public perception (or knowledge) about Jacobs. Yes, we can do more internally, but that doesn't mean we should ignore everything else.

As for what you suggested that we do, which was "keep your eye on the ball", what does that mean exactly? What can I do to "hold authorities responsible"? Organize something, provide solutions/alternatives, and many will follow. But, if you just spouting off criticisms, I'm not sure how much you're accomplishing.

I'm glad we're on the same side here... and I agree with going for the biggest return on effort, as well as moving forward instead of looking behind, BUT I am not as sure as you on what exactly these things are.

People going all ape over some has-been being elected to some hof that no one has heard of sends a message of how disgusted many of us are by the practice of cheating in a pure sport... and hopefully, over time, that message is heard (and adopted) by more than just Jacobs and the HOF club. However, I agree that this is small potatoes in the big scheme of things.

While I'll agree that we need to hold the USATF administration to a higher standard, I also think we need to make an effort to keep those disgraced has-beens just what they are. This isn't just a one front war. We need to attack and keep attacking at every level on every side. If it means sending an email to keep RJ out of the hall, it's absolutely necessary. Here's an easy example: Child A is taken to see RJ inducted into the EthNic HOF. Child A is told RJ was a strong woman of her time blah, blah, blah...Child A then wants to be just like RJ. WELL, when child A grows up and learns RJ did it the illegal way, will child A want to do it the same way? Probably after remembering the HOF induction ceremony, or the fact RJ became their hero. Yes, the answer is the child should be raised by the parents to choose the right way, but we can't count on parents. Plus, even people with good parents still make bad choices for the money, fame, and accolades. We have a responsibility as ambassadors of our sport to clean it up any way possible. Including sending an email!

I wanna know why Wejo is going after a rinky dink organization like the Ethnic Hall of fame for honoring Regina, and wasn't outside Madison Square Garden protesting with a bullhorn when Mary Decker Slaney was honored.

Well if the rabble can be stirred-up to pitching a fit about something this rinky dink then why isn't there greater consensus to go after those who are the root of the real problem? What about a letter-writing campaign to Frank Shorter, Craig Masback, and Bill Roe? Maybe to USATF sponsors, too?
