Just a few comments as a person who ran D2 in the past few years:
1. A big reason why Adams, Western, Abilene, etc. ALWAYS win is that most D2 schools are private small schools that are very hard to get in to. Those few schools, that have earned a great reputation such as those listed above, and have little to no academic standards will reap the benefits and win the hearts of those runners who couldn't get into harder academic schools. This is not to say that all who attend these schools are not smart, I'm sure some are, but the fact of the matter stands that they are not known for their academic reputation.
2. Western and Adams do not "peak" for the Shootout, they are truly that good that they can run with CU (maybe not every year, but many years). They are incredible runners with an incredible coaches, Ex. Damon Martin, who would never peak their runners for such a meet.
3. I get so sick of these "D1 Runners" who come on here and bash DII, DIII, JUCO, NAIA, etc. These other divisions have never said they were better than, nor wanted to be compared to D1. There is a reason why they are not in D1: academics, programs, size, scholorships, etc. We can all agree that D1 is the best division overall, but it is extremely ignorant to call the other divisions pointless or horrible or whatever the usual troll says. The fact is that there are a handfull of teams and runners who go to non-D1 schools that could easily compete on the D1 level, but for whatever personal reason, they did not want to go D1. I don't see why there is such a big fuss about wanting to talk about other divisions on these boards, if you don't want to read about it then ignore it!!!
