What I do not understand is why Ritz has not been able to improve his 10k time very much? He ran 27:38 in 2004, then got injured for the rest of the summer. Came back in 2005 off some good quality winter training where he ran well in some euro-cross races. Started out the track season with a healthy 13:22(leading in the rain without splits), then gets injured again. Comes back in the winter, having some good hard solid training until he got that walking pneumonia, and now he's back to running healthy races. He is much stronger now than he was in 2004, but his races aren't reflecting it. Why is this? Maybe his current training regime can only take him so far in the 10k? I imagine there must be another route to improving his times as a 10k runner? Meb set the 10k AR after training for and running marathons, so perhaps Ritz running marathons will help him to come back and become a better 10k runner...?
