Yes, private coach Danny Guerrero (Big Bear Track Club). Since Aelo and Summer are the only athletes mentioned above, we can keep it to just them. Not sure when Aelo started training with Danny, but summer started two years ago before she left JSerra. Results are quite impressive, so it's hard to argue with training that improves the athlete.
Danny the argument for you not coaching them would be that both teams completely suck now. One of those teams actually made State and the other didn't. It's bad for the teams and it's bad for the individual girls to not actually be running for their teams and doing the own thing. HS athletes are about more than just fast times.
Don't they get to decide for themselves what they want to prioritize? Both Wilson and Curtis have gone on to run incredible times. Yes, would've been amazing to see Wilson running those times on the JSerra team, but the irony is it's unlikely she would've been national-caliber/breaking the Woodward Park course record had she stayed behind at JSerra.
That is absolutely right. Hard to improve at many schools when every XC practice is dedicated to the whole team running in a pack and training for an 18:00-19:00 5k.
Many of these coaches have very talented 1600m girls running the same pace day in and day out as girls that are 15-30s/mile slower. Which athletes develop in that environment?
I see the point you are making, but the best teams in CA like Buchanan, Mira Costa, J Serra etc, run together because they have a blast running/training/being together. It's part of the culture of the program.
Could some of these girls PR by 30 seconds with private training/coaching just for them, sure. Would they give up the team experience for it, not likely.
Will they miss out on a college scholarship because their PR is 30 seconds slower but have multiple team titles on the resume, possibly.
Braelyn Combe wasn’t just snubbed. She was ROBBED. Rodriguez getting in over her is insane. Nike doubled down on the NIL money they already gave Rodriguez and kicked Combe to the curb.
Tough way to end senior year like this. Great HS XC career though!
Rodriguez was 3 individual spots away from autoqualifying.
At least Combe went to NXN in 2023 and 2024.
Rodriquez at 2024 nxn #8 Combe #41.
Rodriquez Washington State Champ and Combe #7 at CA State Meet.
Combe was, however, first non qualifier at NXR California and would also have been a good choice for an at large.
NXN doesn’t allow at-large individuals? Only teams?
NXN rules say no at-large individuals. Until yesterday, when Nike all of a sudden changed the rules at the last minute.
Nike realized that 3 of their Nike Elite girls didn't qualify for NXN, so Nike decided to allow 2 of the girls to run NXN but not the third girl. Somehow Nike believes that makes sense.
I’m guessing that the original reason to decide last-minute to add at large individuals was because they wanted to add Mantecon to NXN, but they didn’t think that his team (Belen Jesuit FL) was good enough for an at large. He and the team couldn’t race at NXR because the Florida state meet was held on the same day as NXR Southeast.

Thanks Danny. It is possible for teams to coach more than one pace. Most schools have both boys and girls and they don’t run together as one big pack.
Private coaches are ruining the sport and dismantling some teams of actually being a real team.

They're not just ruining the sport, they're ruining the individual by thinking they can always have their way. Not a chance a college coach will tolerate this crap. How many true friends will these athletes really have after they leave high school?

Very true. Private coaches making a few dollars and inflating their egos and not able to see or care about the whole picture.

How about Lincoln, also 1 individual spot away and #7 at her regional?
Lincoln at 2024 nxn #133 Combe #41.
Lincoln highest 2025 speed rating 146.33 Combe 147.93
Lincoln at 2025 Nike Outdoor Nationals Mile #11 Combe #8
Lincoln 4:37.75 (both converted and en route) 1600 Combe 4:35.64
Both are Nike Elite runners too. Just seems a bit unfair that Lincoln has two golden tickets with a nearly identical, though technically slower by speed rating, performance to Combe at regionals.

As opposed to HS coaches overworking prepubescent freshman girls to inflate their egos and win CIF titles.

Danny just keep telling yourself you are helping. These same girls would be doing just fine with their teams, winning championships, running fast times, and being part of a team.

Ok Chase. Keep on recruiting since you can't develop.

They're all outstanding athletes, but you can't compare placement in Washington's State event to placement in CA's state event, and NXN 2024 shouldn't matter. In terms of athlete population and competition, CA's State event is the equivalent of NXR NW, which is why CA is its own region. Washington's State meet is the equivalent of CIF Southern Section. Much tougher competition in CA than WA.
Lincoln and Rodriguez faced very little competition this year. Neither came to Woodbridge. The legitimacy of an "undefeated season" is not good when you're only racing local races. Brooks over-rewarded them with Golden Tickets, then Nike followed, and both have parents in the industry. That's a little fishy to me... or A LOT.
At the end of the day, Nike could have REDUCED the controversy by having 2 at-large individuals per region to fill up the region individual boxes. The next in line after those 2 might still have a complaint, but it's a more sterile one than making a case for only 2 places for the entire country and giving NIke passes to 2 industry offspring who already had Brooks freebies also.

I had to look it up who that is. I didn't know their name but I guess that makes sense you would think it was them Danny. It's getting good now!

Danny is must kill you that you don't get to go on stage and receive the applause and be in the pictures like your girls do or like Chase does.

And truly enjoying it more....just imagine how they will be treated by their college coaches when they being the prima donna attitude. Where will Danny be then?

He will back in their ear telling them how their college coach doesn't know anything and they should pay him instead.
