so I couldnt make the meet this year but it looked like some really fast times and good competition. can anyone recap the races 8-10k (8 and 15 looked really fast for a conference race).

however, Theisen ran a total of 6 races. And took 12 jumps combined in the long and triple. He ran two provo times (110H, 400H prelims) one auto time (400H finals). 5 out of his 6 long jumps were provo qualifiers, and he was only one centimeter away from a provo mark in the triple. but i don't see why either athlete (theisen or erichsen) should be doing so much this close to nationals.

running 3 distance events is in an entirely different league in my opinion. the most points a distance guy will score is 30. he got 28.
they're doing this much because they care about winning a team title more than they care about nationals, as well they should.
Those are two of the ballsiest guys a team could want, along with Ballinger and many others in our Conference. Nice job guys.
#1 star:
Kelly Fermolye - nearly broke the MIAC record at 10K running all by himself!!! He had basically one shot to qualify for the NCAA meet and it looks like he did it.
#2 star:
Brandon Gleason-MIAC Champ in 1500M vs. a good quality field and an unbelievable kick. This following a great leg in the 4 x 800M. Finishing third at 5K seals the deal on a great weekend.
#3 Chris Erichsen- probably one of the best all-time MIAC distance runners. Could have won all three if he had too. Very impressive- 45 laps in two days. However, ran only to win where as Fermoyle ran for an NCAA mark because he needed one.
Other great performances, perhaps better than expected:
Sepe - solid double, great finish in 5K after taking a fall.
Ruol - almost stole the 1500M as a FR
Kennedy - nice steeple following a 10K
Johnson (Hamline) - 25 second PR in steeple
Sames- leads from gun for win and NCAA provo
Boumeester- nice relay leg and solid 5K being new to event.
Marotte (Olaf) - good 10K to score for Oles
Connell (St. Thomas)- 10 second steeple PR to finish 7th
Bauer- solid at 10K
Swanson- NCAA provo at 10K
while fermoyle ran well, saying he only had one shot to get to nats is false. the beauty about outdoor is you still have next weekend to go after it. why not save it for a day when you have 10 other guys running 30 low/mid. while noone wants to run possibly 3 10ks in 3 weeks, i dont think it will matter that much, especially for a guy like fermoyle who probably runs more than he sleeps.

well sucks that his team still comes up short when having to run 15-20+ miles in warmups/racing/cool downs. also sucks that the conference meet is so close to the end of the season. most other conference championships took place last week or two weeks ago. it's really not fair having to lay out so late in the season while other conferences get to rest up.
Why don't you try running 3 10K's, once each week and let me know how that third one goes. In addition, you should make sure the field and weather is good on at least that second one. Note that the Calvin guys all ran this past weekend. Find me a 10K runner in the past 10 years who A) qualified on the last weekend and B) who earned all-american honors. Compare that to how many did this two weeks out or more. Also, why don't you come up with a list of DI, DII, and DIII runners who have run 4 10K's in one single season and have earned All-American honors. Your plan has Fermoyle running 4 10K's in five weeks. Again, find me someone at any level who has done this with success. I'll refrain from piling on.
he could have done the first 5k easy at conference and the last 2 miles hard like most years go. then you could hardly call the race a 10k, more like a warmup with a 2 mile race. and it probably would have helped him in the 5k the next day. anyways, i dont think fermoyle will get top 8 at nats so it doesnt really matter. go ahead, start railing on me for saying it.
if it really doesn't matter, why are you so fixated on it. Here's a thought: get a life of your own...running or otherwise. Dumbass.
Last Chance Meets? I know UST and Olaf are heading to La Crosse..what about other teams? I assume coaches will be trying to get a couple more guys running these this year since we have had such a short racing season.
I'm just glad that all the MIAC coaches kept up the tradition of not being within a 10 mile radius of the stadium when the final scores are read.
I thought Erichsen would have at least run with Fermoyle to help his teammate get the time he needed. Fermoyle didn't make the cut to nats last year with 30:40, and his time this year is only three seconds faster.
I hope he makes it. He has a decent chance at top 8. Sigl won last year in 30:54. If the pace is slow, I'd say take a chance and take off.
Fermoyle understands that Erichsen was running for place to give SJU the best chance at winning the meet. If Erichsen expends more energy in the 10k running with Fermoyle to try to help Fermoyle qualify for nats, who knows if he would have been able to come back and win the steeple and the 5k. Granted, in hindsight it didn't matter since UST won by 20.5 points anyways, but at the time it made more sense for Erichsen to "relax" and run for 2nd rather than help a teammate qualify for nats.
That being said, Fermoyle should be fine getting into nats. He's 14th on the list and although there are last chances meets this week, most of the very good 10k runners have already ran it and qualified, and the people trying to qualify in the 10k this weekend are probably not going to run faster than a 30:37.
haha, yeah

Maybe they care about both equally, or Nationals more but don't think racing a lot at conference will hurt them.
Erichsen will definitely not be affected by running three events last weekend. That 10K I'm sure didn't take a lot out of him, and in the steeple he coasted and ran a hard last 250. I'm not sure how hard he worked in the 5K since I was running, but based on the time he probably had more in the tank. If he was really taxed by MIACs he can take this weekend off from racing, and anyone that runs as much as he does would have no problem recovering in 2 weeks.

sepe is entered in 5 and 10? anyone know which race he is going to do? erichsen in the 1500 too. im going to throw it out there and say fermoyle should have waited a week and ran his 10k in a real race. he might miss out after this weekend.
swanson's entered at both meets in the 10K.
