obviously sigl will win. hany i would say 5th or so.
if thats how you feel then you should start a thread that says d3 men contenders... the womens race is gonna be just as competitive as the mens race, if not more. So why dont you just not post anymore and stop acting like Hany would. Thanks hany wanna be
you mean that "kid from platteville" will probably win... barring Hany deciding to push it at 4:40 pace to drop the other "kids" who aren't threats.
oh man, i don't know that guy, but he seems like a riot... hahahaha, I want to drink beers with that guy.
Read the interview carefully. He said IF the race goes out in 4:40's (meaning anything below 4:50) he doesnt think kosgei can win because he wont have a kick. He never said he was going to run 4:40 pace the whole way. I think everyone should go back and read it again carefully. Its not nearly as bad as people are making it out to be. Its not like hes holding press conferences and talking down to people. The guys at track shark asked him some questions and he answered them honestly.
Whoever said that 20th place will be 24:43 is nuts. You guys realize Ryan Bak ran 25:01 on this course the year he won, and he ran 23:59, 14:00 that year in xc and track 5000. Granted the course has changed some, but I dont think it warrants a 45 second change. Top 10 should break 25:00, that's about it. 25:25 will be All American.
Sigl
Kosgei
Abdallah
Erichson
Butzler
Zerzan will dominate the women's race with Dobyns taking 2nd.
The course has changed from the one that Bak ran 25:01 on. It cuts out a significant hill and some switchbacks. I believe it is a bit faster than the old course.
I said it has changed, but that I don't think it is a 45 second change. Even if the winners go that fast, 20th place will not be 24:40.

I took your advice and read it again carefully...
and sure enough, he still sounds like a jackass.
(P.S. - I lied about reading it again carefully.)
Dobyns was outkicked at jim drewes by jordahl..I don't think she will have anything left when she gets to the top of the hill, and i am guessing she will already by in 6th when she gets to that point. I'd say the geneseo and keene state girl are looking good and can challenge in the top 3

My question is how does the NYU coach respond to all this? Most good coaches I know discourage their athletes from talking on message boards...
I could easily be wrong, but I don't recall having seen anything written by Hany on this board or any other. IIRC he was interviewed by online journalists, who transcribed and published his responses.
In other words, the link takes you to an interview, not an essay.
Trackshark just posted an interview with Tyler Sigl.

The responsibility to represent a program is the same. Just as a coach discourages athletes from touting their program on a message board, a coach should discourage his athletes from being an out-of-control asshole in interviews.
nice interview...i like how he says he will probably have a target on his back, meaning he is one of the favorites, and all of the attention should not be placed on him. I was surprised that they wanted 2nd at regionals...That goal seemed pretty extreme, i could possibly have seen third, but because of point having 3 ahead of platevilles 2nd, i think that is where they get beat by them. Well interesting how not cocky he his and how he refrains from stirring up a lot of talk. He just focuses on his goal and i don't think anyone is going to stop him.
Agreed I liked both his interview and Chris Erichson of St. Johns interview. Both seem like humble guys and I wish the best of luck to both of them at Nats. Hany on the other hand...
Sigl sounds like a class act although he did fail to identify "the Greenville guy". y'all need to ease up on Hany. Interesting choice for the headline picture, maybe the trackshark guys have been reading letsrun?
I'd like to discuss the women's race. I think its terrible there are 26 pages of this thread and about 3 posts on the women's race. I realize there aren't as many female posters on letsrun, but come on...the women's race will be a good one too. Any thoughts? From men or women??
"I dunno, I feel like a lot of runners out there are too humble but simply for the wrong reasons. I mean people just don't want to look like the bad guy, so they don't say what they have in their hearts. I mean for example when you interviewed the St. John's kid, he said he would like to do better than his 50th place finish or w/e. Great for him you know, but that doesn't show me that he wants to win"
also, i think the best part of the interview was putting a picture of sigl beating hany to start it off
probably because they are the favorites, i'm sure if there was a picture of sigl and kosgei they would use that one...
BTW there has been quite a bit of talk about the girls race in the last few pages why don't you go back and read...
