D3 XC Individual Contenders

Setting a goal of winning nationals wouldn't upset any of us. Talking trash about guys who beat you by large margins is ridiculous. Hany will always have an excuse for why other runners will continue to own him in big races.

Where was hanys excuse for not winning. I believe he said " I am not denying that he kicked my ass". Its amazing how Pre is remembered and respected for being cocky and making bold statements but everyone goes nuts about hany telling us how he really feels. I realize that Pre won nationals several times but that doesnt hide the fact that he said he would win in 72 and ended up fourth. Hany has the same attitude and theres nothing wrong with that. He still has 5 AA to his name which is more than all of you that hate him can say. The only sign of disrespect is how he doesnt refer to people as their names but is that really a huge deal? Why should he say things that he doesnt think just to make a bunch of people who dont know im like him?

Lets not forget that he also said this:

If you've ever raced against me I've shaken your hand after the and told you good job and keep on trying, no matter if I lost to you or beat you. I mean if I say I'm going to beat somebody and that person beats me and comes up to me after the race and says "look you were wrong I beat you" I'll admit to the fact and say "you're right, you beat me today." But it's not the end of the world and he simply wont beat me every time, so generally every generalization is wrong (lol ignore the logical implications of this, and simply take the semantic implication). I'm just trying to make running more entertaining for everyone, and more importantly for myself.

Um, although personally I thought it was a valid point.

Just because he has 5 AA is no reason to justify any behavior.

Humbleness should be seen as a admirable trait.

He can still hold his beliefs, but rather harness the energy had from them and use them personally to better his performance. Instead by putting forth these comments and thus, having to continue to defend them and his reasons, is taking his focus away from the very thing he is boasting he will do--acquiring a national title. So by "entertaining" the running community, as he claims is part of his reasoning, we should be even more amused that it wil only be a short entertainment.

Its not an analogy performance wise. They just both have the same attitude and similar comments. But we respect Pre for it and comdemn Hany? rediculous

Just because something is done in the past doesn't make it right today. Times/circumstances change. Faulty reasoning to justify based on history. How about we just drop it and just see if his "stubborness" pays off on Saturday.

Who is this "boy" Hany Abdallah? He has been beaten by all the "kids" he talks down to. The humble confidence of most of those in the running sports IS what makes our sport remarkable. A great performance stands on its own. Jumping up and down and pounding your chest is NOT entertainment. Please, please go out in 4:40 on the St Olaf course Hany!

The thing I dont like the most is that he cites a time when he lost to Deshane at regionals then came back and beat him by over 10 spots at nationals as an excuse as to why he will beat Kosgei next weekend. The problem I have with it is that he didn't beat Deshane by 10+ spots as he stated and the next year Deshane beat him at regionals and nationals. So his point about beating people later that beat him at regionals is non existant. I think he just wanted to tell people he's better than Deshane because they've always had a good rivarly. The thing about calling his competition and people that are obviously faster than him kids is off puting as well. The guys is just annoying more than anything else. At least I have a reason to root for Cortland and Calvin now. Not to mention Erichson and Kosgei.

I hate giving this NYU kid so much attention, since that's just what he is asking for.

My question is how does the NYU coach respond to all this? Most good coaches I know discourage their athletes from talking on message boards and attempt to instill in them a measure of sportsmanship. If a collegiate athlete is speaking disrespectfully (and inaccurately) about his competition, it seems like it's the coach's responsibility to teach their athlete a lesson or two. A bunch of anonymous message board posters will only feed Abdallah's ego; a strong word from McDonough might actually do some good. If McDonough never addresses these issues with Abdallah, it reflects poorly on the whole program.

If NYU kids are bitches, what are CMU kids. I believed they and the rest of the UAA go bitched at conferences.

Quite the drama. Maybe it'll perk up the ears of a reality show producer -- scruffy trash-talking Div III cross country runners, yeah! Maybe not.

How about we move on and start predicting times? Erichsen ran 24:58 leading the whole way on that course. I think with some ballsy competition, he can go 40 seconds faster. I think it's pretty easy to guess who will be in the top 7, but the order is up for grabs, and there will be another 15 guys vying for the rest of the top 10. Should be a great race.

I just don't think sigl will be behind erichson, nor will he lose by 10 seconds. I think 24:43 will be more like 20th place rather than 10th place. I think the top 3 will be close to 24:10-24:16 range.

i think 20:59 will win for the women. Zerzin, jordahl, and montgomery will be battling up front

Jordahl for the win in 20:49 because there is good, even competition this year on a fair course.

The difference here is that Pre would have never run for 2nd (as implied by Hany's interview). Pre would have thrown every ounce of energy he had into the race. Hany is no PRE!

what do you think zerzan will run then? Does anyone have any ideas about past racing experiences about her..I'm guessing she is a tough runner and will run well if it is cold...

i think the real question here is, why are we discussing the women's race? i know the thread is d3 xc individual contenders, but that really means men, not women contenders. let's get back to the real thread here which is: who will win, and what place will hany get.
