I heard the Trabuco Hills coach say that by beating JSerra he thinks they have a good shot to get an at large invite to NXN.
I have no idea if he's right or if he's just being optimistic.

Maybe the focus today was on the JSerra boys (because the state title was going to be now or never)? Just kidding.
Off these results, CA should get zero at large teams. Trabuca Hills has not been ranked, even regionally all season. Give those spots to other regions for once.
What’s nuts is that Melanie True was ahead of Aelo Curtis a year ago.
And we never saw her compete in XC again. Had she competed at full fitness, Ventura would have been a high podium contender. (Anyone know what happened?)

Additionally, if you included Summer Wilson with JSerra, they would have easily won the CA merge. But ironically, had she stayed at JSerra, she likely would not have achieved the great results she’s hit this season.
I disagree, sure California hasn’t performed the best in recent years but you can’t deny that beating Jserra in a power merge should warrant one. It’s J-f#cking Serra. The same Jserra that is rank #1 in the nation

But the bigger reason why the JSerra girls didn't qualify for NXN is because they went out waaaay too fast. At the first mile their top 5 girls were all in the top 10. I don't mean the top 10 scoring places, I mean the top 10 even including the individual runners. That's crazy!
Their 5th girl went through the mile in 5:25 which is sub 17 pace. Insane!
To compare that to a sane runner, Jaelyn Williams (who ran the 3rd fastest time ever on that course) went through in 5:23. JWilliams - smart. JSerra - not so smart.

A girls team can't have their top 5 runners running at sub 17 5k pace. Period. There is no girls team in history that could pull that off. I saw JSerra with a half mile to go. They were already really struggling at that point.

Hot take: the most impressive feat today is not from an individual who qualified from NxN. It’s actually from Gretchen Yakaitis from Carondelet (De La Salle’s sister school). Division 3 was a race where really anyone could take it. Carondelet/DLS never really travel farther than NorCal/Bay Area for their races minus Nike Portland. Yakaitis was 5th in NCS for the 800 last year. Didn’t qualify for states in xc last season. Just very unknown. But then goes out today and runs a 17:09 to win it all, a time that is close to Hanne Thomson’s Clovis time last year. Congrats to Yakaitis and the Carondelet girls for their season!
