girl power...There are a few women on this board!

hi, i'm a woman and a major lurker, too. i find i like to scan the threads when i'm in a really bad mood because inevitably i find some morons going on about something that makes me really angry. i post something that vents my anger and i feel better after! i don't like to scan when i'm in a good mood because there are so many pricks on this site that bring the quality down and my mood down with it.

I'm a female who lurks when Rojo/Wejo point out an interseting thread on the home page. I've posted maybe twice. I run because I still can. I'm a recovering long/triple jumper and sometimes coach and am returning to the 5K for the first time since high school.

Hey Flagpole, I think we should let this thread be the Womens'. (I know, I defiled it earlier).

I hope that the Women see how there are really lots of them and that they feel more inclined to post going forward. It would balance out the board and make it a better place. I am sure you agree. So, let's let issues go for now, and see how many more past-tense lurkers / high potential poster there are.

How can you have the liberal attitude you do with regard to war and then no be up on this very basic thing that any female human 18 and over is a WOMAN.

I was going to defend your ealier post, because actually you didn't say that these women were girls, only that you weren't a girl, but then you go and make that second post - bad mistake.

18 and over and they are women. 18 and over and we are men. It would be meant as a slight for them to call you a "boy" so you can't call them "girls".

Personally I have a harder time thinking of an 18 year old male as a "man" than I do an 18 year old female as a "woman". Females do mature at an earlier age than males do after all.

I don't think you're truly a man until you're married with 2 kids and you take responsibility for your marriage and those two kids. Since I'm not a woman, I can't define it other than to say that any 18 year old and older female gets to be called a woman in my book.

I'm all for having more women here. More opinions is always better than fewer opinions. That being said though, I will disagree with anyone if they have the wrong opinion - men or women. I had huge disagreements with 16x right from the beginning, and it had nothing to do with the fact that she is a woman, because for the longest time I thought she was a man! I enjoy good and reasonable posts from anyone - man or woman - Edith though has not yet shown that she can form a reasonable post, and she has had a history which she needs to be called on. She is the female version of Jason on this message board. It is sad really that someone like Edith has to be filled with such hatred of men. Most of us are kind gentle souls. Fred Rogers is my hero. Calbear (a liberal WOMAN) is a great poster and I welcome her opinions anytime. Edith's view of the world is clouded by her hatred.

You would be a welcomed neighbor. I would ask though that you not say "Christ" in front of my children unless you were of course praying and referring to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior.

People of all opinions and beliefs are welcomed in the Flagpole household - well, maybe not OJ Simpson or Barry Manilow, but everyone else.

Oh you are so wrong on that point. I have mentioned this in detail before, and obviously you missed it, but let me give you a little glimpse into the life of Flagpole.

I am a non-fundamentalist Christian - United Methodist to be exact - about the most liberal main stream church you can belong to.

I dislike Jerry Falwell and the like and believe that they give Christianity a bad name - as is evidenced by your reaction that since I am a Christian I must be a gay hater. I don't think that all fundamentalists are evil necessarily - just misguided. Jesus taught grace and peace and understanding and acceptance, not hatred.

I support the rights of gays. They should be (and are) in the military, have health coverage from a partner's employer, be allowed to legally marry, be allowed to adopt, have any rights that any married couple is afforded, be allowed to join the church of their choice. I do not think that being gay is a sin. I do not believe that acting on your gay feelings is a sin. I do not believe that gay people are going to hell - in fact it is those who spew hatred of gays who are headed there. I find it difficult to see how men would be attracted in that way to other men since I have always found women to be irresistable, but I also don't know why my friend Leslie doesn't like pizza, but I still like her. You don't know a person who is more in favor of gay rights than I am, so you are WAY off there.

I am not in favor of abortion, but I support a women's right to choose.

I favor stricter gun control laws - no handguns or automatic weapons or semi-automatic weapons would be fine with me. Rifles are ok.

I favor more laws protecting the environment and favor putting the onus on big business to come up with better less polluting ways to do business.

I favor less TV and more physical activity.

I favor spending more time with family and children and making sure that the children are respected and loved.

I favor that more money be spent on education and would take it from almost every other budget item in order to do so - except the defense of our country.

Would you like to try to stereotype me again? I'll do it - I am a moderately liberal Democrat and would be considered very liberal if it weren't for the fact that I see the need to defend our nation as a great need. I am personally fiscally conservative because I want to retire completely no later than age 60, and perhaps earlier if possible.

I have no problem whatsoever with #1 or #2. I do think females can bring different perspectives that would be good, and they should be encouraged to do so.
