5-08. 160lbs. I was much lighter in college... but a few years removed now and currently training around 40mpwI should note, I was a corrections officer prior to this... while these are minimum standards to get entered. Once in rheir day runs are in the 7:30-830 range (or so I'm told).

Standing out too much in a quasi military environment isn't the best idea. Finishing first was enough for me. Yes, I can run 1.5 much faster. I wasn't shooting for anything competitive. Just working on getting a job and going for a jog.

My original point was that there were some healthy, fit looking individuals who couldn't manage 1.5mi in 15:55...

29 Sit-Ups is enough to pass for the Army as a 40yr. old, 40 push-up took me two weeks to get to when I weighed 190lbs., 300m time isn't fast but it's based on something realistic for a 7min. miler, only took me a couple time trials a week and some 2-3mile "long runs" (three miles is painful if you're not in good shape though, no lie I hated my first three miles) for a month to get that, and and 1.5 in 11:15 is, what, 7:30 pace?
I suggest these standards because it requires some work, but a month before applying and testing for academy shouldn't be a problem for an otherwise healthy person who really wants to become a law enforcement agent.
Tell me why or when the average police officer would need to run 1.5 miles at 7:30 pace. The average cop (as well as people at many other jobs so not picking on cops here) does not need to run distances close to that on the job so there is no reason to make the minimum standard that fast even if you as a person who runs consistently finds it to be easy.

They wouldn't. But perhaps it is a sign of what is needed for a struggle with an assailant? Cardio is important.

The retired officers description is spot on. My advice also is to always display wonderful command presence and own a situation and scenario. For instance, every day you can read about how a corrupt pig or three is in trouble for either brutality, money schemes/crimes, or another shady scenario. Keep ironing that shirt, coward.

You guys are right. You got about 20lbs of weight wrapped around your body. Your vest /Kevlar/Second chance type several pounds, holster, 2 sets handcuffs, gun, 2 extra clips, spare flashlight and other items. The guys you struggle with usually have tee shirt and sweats. Your right also that the foot chase usually subsides as far as flat out running. A guy will quickly get around a dark corner, over a fence etc. Now your tracking his foot strike thru frost in a back yard, across the grass. If you got snow he knows he can't go to ground. Now your chasing him for blocks and blocks. Your waiting for him to start shooting from where ever he is hidden. If your lucky you just get in the struggle with him. Let me tell you the extra weight is so tiring. A couple times he and I were so tired, breathing so hard we just both roll on are backs and quit. Me saying I can't chase you no more. Him saying I quit man, can't breath can't breath. We both started freakin laughing. We both, just start walking back, me complimenting him on that one fence he hurdled etc. So tired I'm callin EMT's for both of us. Some chases are just funny as hell young guys. You never know though.
