Downfall of Robby Andrews continues

Did any of you experts on here consider that he might be banged up or that he has missed significant training time? He is clearly not at his best. Give the guy a break. It really makes me laugh when people come on here and draw stupid conclusions with no facts to back it up.

The transition from college to the pro's is not as easy as many think. Im not so sure his coach is what he needs now. Something to be said about training with a group of pro's with support and coaching for athletes post collegiate.

Im not privy to this kids current situation , my guess he's on track to be out of the sport in two years unless somebody jump's in and helps direct him.

It's simple his coach's name needs to just change from Vig to Gag.....

I once saw this idiot at the armory who just ran around trying to high-five strangers before a race instead of warming up - ever since then I've hoped for the demise of that loser.

He is a piece of shit. I saw him at the armory at one of the meets my college team competed at, and as we were doing strides before an 800 I tried to give him a high five, like most distance runners do, he looked at my hand and just looked away. Ever since I have hoped for the demis of Andrews.

He performs when it counts, does he not?

This isn't some mid season race. The USA Championships are in 1 week, and I'm sure it was suppose to be a good tune up for them.

unfortunately, i see a significant lack of focus, just from the little bit that i have seen/heard.

I'm going to agree with the lack of focus statement. Have you seen the most recent "Driven"? Could only make it 11 laps as a pacer, 4 mile runs at 8 minute pace with his father/sister. Really sad. I had this hope that he might be our own little Seb Coe with the way he ran at VA.

Yeah, I think I noticed him on the podium at some race in London last year. Can't remember what it was, though.

Watching Andrews' driven episodes on flotrack, my reaction was that it's no wonder he's not racing well. He works about half as hard as a typical HS sophomore. Compare Andrews' workout to Estrada's (or Martinez or D'Agostino or True) and it's pretty obvious who's working the least.

He wasn't working much harder when in college. The difference is all mental. In college, he had other things to keep his mind off track and field. He was going to class, hanging with friends, doing whatev, and then when meet time came around, he could turn it on.

he's now learning that professional running isn't very glamorous or even that fun. I think he needs to get back that camaraderie and be part of a group that will push him but also give him the time to relax and joke around.

How is it that so many people have taken literally the guy that said he tried to high five Andrews and was denied? Also, to the person that posted that, well done.

I would agree if it was one race, but he has had a string of bad races. For an athlete in what should be the prime of career to be going backwards at such a fast pace is strange. There could be a health issue.

In his interview after the race he stated just this. He was sick recently and had to take some days off. Also if there are two mid distance runners that you can compare, Leo Manzano and Robby Andrews are about as close as you can get. They are both feared for their kick, had success immediately and had the same collegiate coach. More recently we are seeing even more comparison where they aren't very consistent. They can go one week from losing to guys they have PR's 4+ secs faster than to the next week out kicking almost anyone. I wouldn't count these guys out in any championship style race and I wouldn't hold it against them when they have an off day, because for guys with their talent it doesn't mean all that much.

Robbie Andrews didn't have a workout wednesday like those other people you listed. The Driven videos are more meant to show his life as opposed to the specifics of his training

I agree that we have all seen enough that we can't count out athletes like Robby and/or Leo for example, but 1:47 is a bad race, 1:49 is a training run. Also, just about all of Vig coached athletes tend to be up and down especially early in the season and part of that is by design. But, to suggest it is improper to speculate about an athlete who a year ago we thought was going to be America's next great middle distance runner, who is now performing only a notch above his H.S. years...all sorts of speculation is to be expected.

With that said, I hope Robby turns things around, but missing training, being banged up or whatever, it does not look good. Btw, I have not read all of the posts, but I don't have any judgments other than the fact that he is not running well.
