Unknowingly had appendicitis, tried to tough it out until the pain got so bad i would have rather been dead at that moment. Turned out my appendix had fully ruptured a couple hours before and by the time i got to the hospital i was septic and goi downhill fast. Big open surgery followed by 5 days in the ICU. if your kids complain of a stomach ache that isn't going away, ask if it is worst in the lower right quadrant of their abdomen. If so get to the hospital.

The tip of my pinkie finger was cut off in a door by mistake when one of my parents accidentally slammed it shut on my hand. Close runners up: crushed my foot underneath a garage door loaded down with multiple neighborhood kids (we used to ride garage doors up and down as a past-time), stepped on an old, rusty nail that went straight through my foot, broke both wrists while ice skating, broke my ankle in multiple places while jumping off a swing, sliced my hand open (down to the bone) with a butter knife that slipped while I was attempting to pry open a frozen bagel.

I usually use slightly less oomph when I'm prying open my bagels. I had a couple close calls with garage doors myself as a kid...good thing most of them now have some type of sensor to prevent them from crushing things.

Triple coronary arterial bypass wasn't easy; kidney stones were worse; gall stones, which went undiagnosed for quite awhile, still worse; but nothing was like a bad case of shingles.

When I spilled hot bacon grease over my hand. The skin sort of melted and pooled up in little lobes around my knuckles. The next day it looked like fried chicken. Good times.

Had a wisdom tooth pulled. Went and got the pain meds. Didn't take pain meds. Anesthesia wore off and it hit me. Wanted to beat my head in until I passed out on the steel door of my office for 15 min. before the oxycodone kicked in.

Hmmm, well I fractured my wrist bone when I was twelve.

I flew over the handle bars on my bicycle after hitting the inside curb at the local dirt track. I immediately felt a horrible pain in my stomach and wrist and had to hurry home with a broken wrist.

That hurt the most because I was twelve and freaked out by the look of the limp wrist and being without a parent to calm me down. The stomach hurt almost as bad as the break.

It's common knowledge that kidney stones are the most excruciating pain the human body itself generates, more than childbirth (women who've had both by a 3-1 margin reckon kidney stones are more painful), gallstones, appendicitis etc.

OH god this x 1000. I know this feel except it goes to my head. Very painful.

Surprisingly it was caused by running to fast on uneven terrain.

Attempting to clear out a slow drain in a bath tub, I was boiling five gallon pots of water and dumping it in. I'd done this several times before, successfully, so at this point I was just being careless and doing so in running shorts and socks with no shoes.

While tilting the still-boiling pot of water into the tub the water bounced off the outside rim and back towards me and onto my foot. The instant jolt resulted in me dumping the remaining 4-5 gallons of water directly onto my feet. I stayed fairly calm, muttering curses as I ripped both socks off, revealing the skin on both feet had melted off.

I hobbled downstairs and stuck both feet in the same pot of icy water. After googling I reluctantly decided to go to the hospital. My truck was in the shop that weekend, and my girlfriend and best friend were both out of state so it took two hours before I actually got in. Once I hobbled in with flip flops taped to my feet I waited 10 minutes behind a woman arguing about a bill. This was the worst part as I could barely stand and was shaking with blurry vision and all that. The receptionist noticed and rushed me into a room. Oddly, the pain disappeared very suddenly about two minutes before the nurse came in and injected the painkillers. The damage was second degree burns covering 60% of both feet with a few spots bordering on first degree. The burn ward applied a bunch of foam gauze made out of silver and I was able to run again 19 days later. The strangest part is the initial surge of pain when I dumped the pot was the most pure and intense sensation I have ever had. I actually had a bunch flashbacks and these creepy almost cravings for it over the next week or so.

He's not doubting that you wanted to die, he's criticizing your word choice. "Figuratively" would have been the appropriate word.

Kidney Stone. "Literally" (not figuratively) dropped me to my knees and had me puking. EMT's and nurses kept telling me, "Oh yeah, this is the worst pain - worst than childbirth even." Morphine didn't even touch it.

Same thing happened to me. Well, almost. My appendix didn't actually rupture until I was at the hospital while they were trying to figure out what was wrong with me. The doctor actually seemed kind of annoyed with me because I couldn't really communicate. I just kept groaning and tossing around. He was like, "Look. I have other patients. If you can't be more specific about what you're experiencing then I'm gonna move on." It wasn't long after that they realized I had a ruptured appendix and they took me to surgery. Definitely the worst pain/illness I've ever experienced. The icing on the cake was when they pumped my stomach. The nurse busted my nose while trying to put the tube down my throat. So on top of everything else I was choking on blood.

Try >24 hours of labor, childbirth x 2 with no pain meds. Oh yeah, and then breastfeeding twins with extreme sleep deprivation for a little over a year.

Men don't have the faintest understanding of pain or self-sacrifice.

Running: Dealing with Pes Anserine Tendonitis or Bursitis- a super sharp pain just below the knee. you have the hamstring being really tight and the groin tighter as well and that is a direct recipe to cause pain there. You would be convinced its just shin splints at first and later on a stress fracture

(ITBS, Piroformous Syndrome and Achilles Warnings are honourable mentions)

Life: 5 years old. Hand through glass, ironically the hand wasn't bloody at all. however, the pain was coming from a lateral slit in the forearm and that was extremely painful. Turned out I even managed to slice that tendon. (the upper body equivalent of a sliced Achilles tendon)

Not only was I in severe pain, but you could see the exposed muscle (the skin split like it was elastic)

Very lucky that I was even able to have a proper functioning hand after that

I would tell you how bad it hurt when I tore a few muscles in my back from a headfirst fall through an attic ladder but I passed out before I hit the ground. Couldn't run for 3.5 years.

Not the worst pain that I've ever felt (I'll save that for back spasms), but I was dispensing some liquid nitrogen (about −200°C or −320°F) in the lab and some spattering droplets went down into my cryogloves and froze the tissue on my hand. It hurt much much worse than a typical heat burn and persisted much longer.
