I'll try to allay questions about Nicole's terrific race: I'm the meet announcer & have been for years. I take great care to monitor race progress & write splits down each km. As has been noted, Nicole & the MSU runner (who had to catch NM) locked up for a couple miles in the middle portion of the race. The 5 km split was 17:14. As the race continued Nicole moved away & w/the cheers from the crowd the large Calvin contigent there, including her coach, '84 Olympic steeple bronze medalist Brian Diemer. The cheers seemed to energize her. She kept ripping off faster kms in the ideal cool conditions/no wind and finished w/a 16:55 2nd 5 km. If not for the MSU runner, unlikely the time would've happened or the record broken. I gave Nicole my sheet of splits afterward where I'd also written 'WOW!' If there'd been any doubt about the # of laps, Brian would've said something to me afterward - but he didn't because she DID run 25 laps. She's been having a good year, puncuated by this excellent performance!
