Another one is Matt Kerr, won the NCAA steeple title twice at Arkansas in the 90s I believe.

What about the guy from Ontario who went to Notre Dame and ran around 13.30 for 5000 a few years ago. Sorry, forgot his name, but it will come back to me. I think he is not running anymore.
When I attended University of Windsor for my BEd. in 2001-2002, there was Ryan Mackenzie who was built like a Kenyan and ran very well indoors on low mileage. Something like 3.45 for 1500 on the Windsor indoor track. He went on to run 3.37 outdoors, I think, but never quite made it to the top.
Ghost in Saudi,
apply today, great job
On the topic of Kidd: I TA'd for him not too long ago (as many will know, he's as accomplished an educator & activist as he was a runner) and at the beginning of the first lecture I got there early and was sitting in the front row while students meandered in. Kidd is a pretty quiet guy and I had no idea what to say, so I asked him if he still does any running. Couldn't stop him after that; class began late.
Brendan Mathias:
1.) 3:39.1 prior to the World Juniors in 1988
2.) Wins the American Mile and 2 Mile Indoor National Championships
The Two Mile: The field has already been covered. Now to the race. The field of 12 stayed bunched for six laps. This alone is evidence of a great race. They were running at a sub-9:00 mile pace and eleven were still in contention. The race produced the TOP FIVE indoor times of 1987! MARC DAVIS, 8:24.14-8:58.34; TODD WILLIAMS, 8:26.41-9:00.39; PAUL THOMAS, 8:30.58-9:01.76; TJ MCARDLE, 8:32.05-9:06.05 and BOB KENNEDY, 8:34.92-9:08.44. The winner, Canadian Brendan Mathias, 8:22.64-8:54.46 only moved away over the final two laps. With six kids under 9:10 and eleven of the twelve finalists at 9:12.76 or better, this establishes the race as one of the finest ever, if not, THE finest.
Mathias had already won the mile 50 minutes before the 2 mile.
High School bests of 3:39.1/8:10.5 for 1500/3000
Ian Clarke:
5th at World Junior Cross Country in grade 12
8:04 on an 11 lap to the mile indoor track 12
13:54 5000m in grade 12
Injured himself running on a golf course in his grade 13 year destroying his chances of winning the world junior cross country meet. Ian had won, Ofsaa, Otfa, Canadians and the trials handily over Dennis Stark who went n the finish 4th at the junior world cross country meet.
Most of these guys could hold their own in the NAIA. I think it'd be possible to see some of them making all american by their senior year.
So, does he still do any running?

I just felt the need to call out that guy for being a racist jerk. He probably thinks Yves came to Canada so he could steal the justly deserved medals of [white] Canadian-born kids like himself. Because as we all know, the Ofsaa medal is more important than the Olympic medal.
One of the biggest signs that Yves and Mo were working harder than the typical HS student in the area is their 10k times. The other guys were struggling to break 31 (and 14:45) while these two were in the 29s and 14:10s. These two are much better than Leeder was in HS.
Having said that, they were still far worse than Anderson and Kidd were
Kailee Sawyer 2:09.58 for the 800m at Ofsaa as a grade 9 girl
Christian Brennan 52.86 for the 400m as a 16 year old, 3rd overall in Canada in the 400m as a 15 year old and 2nd overall in Canada at the olympic trials this past summer as a 17 year old.
that is all

Let's keep the Grade 13 Ontario guys out of it. There have been many good times run by other runners as freshman in university that would challenge all the Grade 13 Ontario guys.
The thread says 'best Canadian high school runners of all time' Marc was in high school when he ran his 3:58 - this is not a thread about University freshmen
Not sure why you are making it more confusing than it has to be? You can read English, can't you?
Oelson was in HS but that is when Ontario had Grade 13. This one year makes a huge difference when comparing. If we want to compare apples to apples then just say, Who were the best Juniors.

Well, technically neither are Bairu or Ahmed, if you want to get all butthurt about it.
I would still include these three athletes on this list. They attended high school in Canada, and were mainly developed by Canadian coaches, on Canadian soil.
True, Bairu and Ahmed came to Canada when they were relatively young (and before they were runners), but Sikuwabu did improve a great deal after immigrating (under the coaching of Mike Woods and later Dave Scott-Thomas).
Besides this, I think that the story of his immigration and subsequent success is representative of the "Canadian Dream" if you will, and makes him as rightful a Canadian as anyone else.

Sikuwabu came to Canada after the World Juniors in Moncton. He was already a sub 3:50 1500m runner. He wasn't even the fastest high school 800m/1500m runner in Canada when he was in high school - Keffri Neal of BC was faster.

Could the first person have meant that Sikuwabu isn't Canadian in the sense that he isn't a Canadian citizen? As opposed to Mo and Bariu (though to be honest can't say if Bariu was or not in high school, but I'm fairly certain he was) who were Canadian citizens in their high school days.
Bariu was a Canadian citizen in HS. Get off the Canadian citizen crap. Nobody cares. We are comparing athletes who ran in Canadian HS.
Carl Folkes. 46.27 over 400m.

Don't forget she ran 2:05 indoors this past season as a junior.
The region she comes from has some outstanding talent right now;
Ben Flanagan OFSSA XC champ plus 8:24 3000m
Scott Buttinger, 200m plus a 3:47 1500m. Tremendous finishing kick.
Jamie Phelan - Last 100m kick in the Penn relay girls mile for the win was truly impressive.
My vote for best Canadian HS would have to be Sully, the records speak for themselves.
Greg Anderson was a true phenom with that 8:00 3000m but what people don't recall is that as dominant as he was on the track he was equally dominant at XC with multiple Ofsaa titles.
JUSTYN KNIGHT!!!! guy didn't lose a single race in grade 12 until world juniors where he ran 14:0x!
