Occasionally I'll work extra hours when a contractor is doing something important or to meet a project deadline. But my boss is also lenient with letting me leave a little early to get to family stuff so it averages out. It's a pretty good gig as far as hours go, but i also don't get paid what I would elsewhere.
'9/80 means that in a 14 day period you work 10 days and 80 hours - so basically a traditional M-F workweek of 8 hours/day'
Ridiculous why not just put 9-5

Maybe it's only because I've been working for a year, but I just don't really understand the people who think working in corporate America is the worst thing in the world. People talk about waking up one day living in the suburbs one day wondering where your life went? I don't really buy that your job put you in that position. My job, and the money I've made from it, have given me opportunities to take classes on things I always wanted to learn, travel to amazing places, and do really fun things with my friends and family that I couldn't really do before. I think if I woke up in 30 years in a house in the suburbs with a wife and a few kids who all loved me, I wouldn't be thinking where did my life go. I'd be thinking about how great the last 30 years had gone.
You can do great things with your life, even if your working.

My commute is running, I live about 3 miles away from work and shower there. In the evenings I work out, swim, run a workout with a local team, go to my gf's house, whatever, so get home time is variable. 5k pr is 18:06.
Working 40 hours a week as a single adult in a super-fun city without financial stress is an absolutely amazing lifestyle. Balancing healthy sleep, exercise and a lot of social time is easy. It makes me realize that if I had been disciplined enough in college to actually work 9-5, to actually get up at 8:00 a.m., I would have killed it.
Of course I'm here now at work on letsrun...

I work at a small school, teach PE, coach CC and track, and help with athletics (work at home games). School goes from 8:15-3:30pm but it is rare I am not at school before 7:30am to plan/grade. Practice (I still meet athletes in the off-season) runs from 4pm-5:30 or 6pm. About 1/2 the time I can run with the distance runners and go home around 6pm but the other 1/2 I work with the sprinters/throwers and have to run after 6pm.
Saturdays in the fall are filled with CC meets and in the spring Track meets. Fall is better because usually I can get home much, much earlier (track meets last forever).
College coach works 98 hours per week?
I want to hear where that time is put?

You don't happen to work for Kimley Horn do you? I know a couple recent graduate friends of mine who are traffic engineers with a private consulting civil engineering firm who get worked like slaves there.
