What would you do if you were Lance right now?

I would look at what other riders caught doping have done, and what it has done to them - compare, for example, Jan Ullrich and Erik Zabel, both Telekom riders, both national heroes while they were winning. Ullrich never admitted doping, payed a fortune on lawsuits, and is almost ready for reality TV. Zabel staged a tearful admission, and is now a well-respected figure in the world of cycling, with his public image intact.

Of course, what Armstrong did was much worse than just using drugs to cheat, but I still think the American public would be all-too willing to forgive him, if given half a chance. They want to *believe* a good turn-around story and don't really care about the truth.

Yes, Lance doped. So do a whole lot of cyclists (and runners for that matter). He is being made a pariah while all others fly relatively under the radar. This media frenzy is a farce. Make the focus about doping in sport, not about Lance.

If I were Lance, I'd wait another week or two for some other sporting or political event to catch the public's fancy- particularly the segment of the public that actually cares.

Then I'd wait some more. Then, during a slow media cycle- after the election- I'd announce publication of a tell-all confessional book. That would be a best seller and get Lance's name in the public eye again. ALL PROFITS FROM THE BOOK WOULD GO TO CHARITY.

But I would never let myself look weak. Or cry. That's just not the Lance anyone wants to see or the Lance his supporters want to vouch for.

That's what I'd do and I wouldn't be surprised if that's what he does.

Or something similar. (like 75% of profits to charity- he's gotta eat caviar after all).

Perhaps a better question is this: Where on this continuum is Lance? and How long (months?...years?) 'til he gets to stage 5 (acceptance)?

I don't get how he's a fraud. He was a doped rider who beat other doped riders. This should be his angle.

If he says that, someone needs to counter that with:

"Tell that to the hundreds or thousands of aspiring and talented cyclists that gave up on their dream because they refused to cheat"

But Lance will never admit anything. He has a very similar trait that Steve Jobs had, a 'reality distortion field'. He, and his loyal supporters, will continue to live in a world in which he can do no wrong and anyone out to get him are evil doers.

How is the 1,000 of clean riders who never got a chance Lance's fault? Why isn't it Hamilton's or Hincappie's fault? Lance wasn't the first man to dope then everyone followed. This rabbit hole goes waaaay back. How many tests did Merckx's (sp?) fail? Lance doped because others were doping.
