If Lagat had some awesome "thyroid condition" their would be a new sheriff in town and it would be Lagat winning the 1500,the 3000m steeple, the 5k and the 10k and jogging to 3rd in the marathon after he won the Triathlon

In any case, the 10,000 isn't a middle distance event and isn't relevant to the thread. In the 5000, Lagat may not have medaled, but he didn't medal better than Rupp didn't medal.
And Manzano DID medal in a mid-distance event.
Look at the U.S. lists:
1500- Centro fastest time, Manzano medal.
3000- Jager fastest time.
2 mile- Rupp fastest time.
5000- Rupp fastest time, no USA medal.
10000- Rupp fastest time, Rupp medal.
Olympic trials- Two wins for Rupp, one for Manzano.
2012 Lagat- fastest time in zero events, zero Olympic trials wins, zero Olympic medals. He is the king of NOTHING.
